Re: SBS 2003 - Exchange 2003 - Information Store Will Not Start

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Do you have any errors logged in the Directory Service or File Replication
Service logs? I'm coming up with a fair number of hits in searching for the
two errors, but none of them seem to apply other than those you've ruled
out.

I'd definitely call PSS (Microsoft support) for help with this before I
reinstalled anything. Reinstalling SBS is a big nightmare that includes
profile issues on the client PCs, and without having diagnosed the original
issue, you could end up right in the same spot you are now. This could be
something very simple that would be rapidly diagnosed by an Exchange support
tech.

Technically yes, this is a new install. SBS was installed before I
arrived, and Exchange was not installed during the initial setup.

I guess that's new, yeah?

The organization name has no hybrid characters in it. The Exchange
install was done using control panel, change/remove on the SBS. It
installed w/o any errors.

Would it be easier to nuke the entire SBS install and start over?

Dave,

I didn't "change" permissions.. my bad.. I ensured the permissions were
as installed as one of the error messages (via MS Technet) said that it
could be the problem. I'm all good there. Here are the 2 error

Hi Chris - What permissions have you changed that could be causing
this?
Exchange should have installed with the correct permissions, so you
shouldn't have had to change anything in that regard.

When you try to start the IS and it fails, it'll be logging errors in
the
Application logs. If those don't point you right to the cause, please
post
them here.

Hi,

Exchange is driving me nuts. The information store service will
not
start, and I am pretty sure that I have permissions correct.

Anyone who can walk me through what I might be doing wrong, please
contact me. I'd be happy to email screenshots or whatever you might
need. I'm not a MCSA.. not by a long shot.. and this exceeds my
knowledge.

Thanks in advance for all replies!

-Chris
