RE: Public Folders and OUs

Hi,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that you would like to
configure your Exchange Server 2003 to be responsible for receiving
messages for two domains. If I have misunderstood your concern, please let
me know.

This question appears to be more consulting in nature.

Here I would like to provide you with some general information and
suggestions:
-----------------------------------------
Based on my knowledge, this is feasible in Exchange Server. First of all,
you need to establish a trust between these two domains: 123.com and
789.com. After this, we can use the following steps to configure your
Exchange Server responsible for receiving message for the two domains:

1. Please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP), and tell them to
point these 2 SMTP domains' (123.com and 789.com) MX records to your
Exchange 2003 computer.

2. Start Exchange System Manager (ESM) and browse to the
<Organization>\Recipients\Recipient Policies container.

3. Please refer to the "How to Create New Recipient Policies" part in the
following Microsoft KB article to create 2 Recipient Policies, one for each
domain. The SMTP address is @123.com or @789.com.

HOW TO: Use Recipient Policies to Control E-mail Addresses in Exchange
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=319201
Note: This article also applies to Exchange Server 2003.

4. Open the Properties page of the Recipient Policy for "@123.com". On the
"Email Addresses (Policy)" tab, please choose "SMTP_address@xxxxxxx" and
click the Edit button. Please check the "This Exchange Organization is
responsible for all mail delivery to this address" check box. Repeat the
steps above for the Recipient Policy for 789.com.

5. Manually right click on each Recipient Policy and click "Apply this
policy now".
6. Restart the Microsoft Exchange information store service.
7. Verify the new email addresses are applied to each user:

- Open Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC) and open the Properties
page of the user.
- On the E-mail Addresses tab, please check if the email addresses are
correct.

For additional information, please refer to the following Microsoft KB
article:

How to Configure E-mail Addresses Based on Domain Membership
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=325921
Note: This article also applies to Exchange Server 2003.

How to Manage Address Lists When You Host Virtual Organizations
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=822940

Note: Based on my experience, here are some points we should pay attention
to:

1. If you create more than one Global Address List and you want a user to
use a specific Global Address List, make sure that the user is a member of
the list, and that the user has permissions to access only this list.

The detailed information is documented in the following Microsoft KB
article:

312287 How to make sure that Outlook clients access the correct Global
Address
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=312287

2. If Outlook 2003 clients are using "Cached Exchange Mode", users access
Offline Address Book in fact. So please disable "Cached Exchange Mode" in
Outlook 2003.

Or you need perform the following steps to create additional OAL for end
users.

Generally, in an Exchange hosting environment, as you may have known, the
Offline Address Book download behavior is controlled by the attribute
msExchUseOAB in AD. Also, we need to create a new Offline Address List
(OAL) and point it to an Address List (rather than a Global Address List).

Here are the main steps to achieve this goal:

1. Create a global address list to show all the users and groups as you
want.

2. Go to "All Address Lists" container in Exchange System Manager, and
create an address list that is a copy of the global address list.

3. Create a new Offline Address List pointing to the newly-created Address
List in step 2. Rebuild the new OAL object. Please make sure the OAL is
pointed to an Address List (not a Global Address List).

4. Set the msExchUseOAB from ADSI Editor.

1) Start the ADSI Edit utility.

2) Expand "Configuration Container [<server.your_domain_name.com>]", expand
"CN=Configuration,DC=<your_domain_name>,DC=<com>", expand "CN=Services",
expand "CN=Microsoft Exchange", expand "CN=<OrganizationName>" (where
<OrganizationName> is the name of your Exchange organization), expand
"CN=Address Lists Container", and then click "CN=Offline Address Lists".

3) In the right pane, right-click the newly-created offline address list.
4) Click "Properties".
5) In the "Select a property to view" list, click "DistinguishedName".
6) Select the value that is in the "Value(s)" box, and copy this
information to the clipboard. The information appears similar to the
following:

CN=<Test OAL>,CN=Offline Address Lists,CN=Address Lists
Container,CN=<OrganizationName>,CN=Microsoft
Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=<your_domain_name>,DC=<com>

7) Click "Cancel".
8) Expand "Domain NC", and then expand "DC=<your_domain_name>, DC=<com>".
9) Locate to the user you want to configure.
10) Right click and then "Properties".
11) In the "Select a property to view" list, click "msExchUseOAB".
12) Click to put the insertion point in the "Edit Attribute" box, and then
press CTRL+V to paste the distinguished name of the proper OAL.
13) Click "Set", and then click "OK".

Note: We can change the value for multiple users via ADModify.

5. Restart the Information Store Service

For more information, please refer to the following Microsoft KB article:

How to create an offline address list that contains a filtered copy of the
global address list
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=280435
Note: Please refer to the step 1 to 4. Do NOT delete the default global
address list.
I hope the information above is helpful.

I hope the information above is helpful.

Have a great day!

| We have a couple of OUs for two different companies within our
| organisation.
|
| All the users are seperated into two different OUs and they are all
| members of a group for each of the OUs. A recipient policy is active
| for both companies (with slightly different domains) and that is all
| working perfectly.
|
| What we want to be able to do is have two different address books and
| public folders for the users of the different OUs to access. At the
| moment there appears to be just one folder, and this is causing issues!
|
| Any info would be great, as I cannot find this information. (Maybe I am
| using the wrong search terms?)
