Re: Problem with DHCP server...

Hi Jerzy,

Thanks for your update.

Based on the information you provided, it is not the English version of the
SBS. While we can't official support NON-English here, perhaps a community
member or a MVP can help, you may also want to use your local support
options, such as CSS & newsgroup. For support for localized versions we
request that use the support resources appropriate to that language. Please
visit www.microsoft.com/partner and click on the Worldwide Sites link to
find the appropriate resources for your language.

Concerning the current situation, to investigate the problem we may need to
read the server logs and event logs or collect more information. However,
as the server is in polish, it will be hard for us to do troubleshooting.
Plus this is an urgent scenario, you may need to call your local CSS
support.

Due to the complexity of this issue, to save your time, you may need to
contact CSS for better support.

A suggestion would be to contact Microsoft Product Support Services via
telephone so that a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your
request. Please be advised that contacting phone support will be a charged
call. However, if you are simply requesting a hotfix be sent to you and no
other support then charges are usually refunded or waived.

To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a
look at the web site listed below.

If you are outside the US please see http://support.microsoft.com for
regional support phone numbers.

Thanks for your cooperation and understanding!

Best regards,

Crina Li (MSFT)

| Hi Crina,
|
| Thanks very much for your answer. You are, as usually, very helpful. As
| to your questions:
| 1. the DHCP is of course disabled on my router.
| 2. There is only one SBS server in my LAN.
| 3. ....................
| 4. If I try to enable the DHCP on SBS, I launch the DHCP option on the
| server menagement menu and I see:
| - no server on the list of DHCP servers
| - when I try to activate the only one defined and visible on the
| list of DHCP, after clicking on the server I get the message
| (translation from polish):
| DHCP server could not be found.
| The choosen DHCP server could not be found. The server may not
| work, some net problems could occured or DHCP service is not installed.
| Error: DHCP service is not running on the host computer.
|
| Both internal (LAN) and external (WAN) NICs are OK. On workstations the
| option: "IP assigned by DHCP" is choosen.
| If I switch off the server from the LAN and WAN and restart it, then the
| DHCP works OK. If I then connect the server to the LAN after a few
| minutes, hours, etc. the DHCP from SBS stop to work. The server has been
| working OK for about 1 month. What's more on workstations an application
| installed on the server using MS SQL 2005 couldn't be run, but it worked
| OK when was run from SBS server. The message: "MSSQL could not be find"
| was shown. Internet connections was OK.
|
| As you suggested I rerun CEICW. And Eureka. MSSQL start to work
| properly. The mentioned application can be run from workstations. But
| now... I lost connection to Internet. Ping with domain name fail, so as
| I suspect DNS stop to work properly, however all look OK. Ther are no
| messages about errors with DNS. I verified carefully all parameters
| concerning DHCP, DNS and found nothing wrong. Ping with router and
| workstations IP is OK, but no IP from Internet can be reached. The
| problem with disappearing DHCP did not disappeared. Sorry, but where to
| find what is wrong and what check? I think that we will have to
| establish "a hot line" if problems with SBS will occur
| with such intensity.
