Re: Trying to get my server working

reason to not run a webserver is not a 'windows' question, nor an 'sbs'
question, it is a 'webserver' question. It does not matter which webserver
you run it _will_ be attacked. Maintaining security of the server takes
time. Time costs money. Recovery from an 'incident' takes more time and
money. It is not only the cost of your time to maintain the system but also
'Hey, everyone, gotta shutdown, important patch needs to be applied.', lost
productivity.

A decent hosting service either has people dedicated to security or simply
doesn't care. They can afford the security team because they spread the cost
of maintaining such over a large number of sites. The one's that don't care
rely on a 'throw it away and replace' strategy, if a system is compromised
they simply pick up the sites, reinstall the server.

Could you point me to some of the post that explain the risks

This is primarily a web server but I am limited on funds and want to
learn all the different aspects of 2003 server. I have the MCSE books
a friend gave me and hope to take the first test in about 6 months. Is
there a way to securely run:

Exchange
web server iis 6
Terminal services
SQL Server

on one box or is there a cheap way to use virtual server or web server
because security is important to me and I want to have my own email and
web mail to my domain. I also want to host websites on my server in
time just for friends and family. I am here to learn so please let me
know the best case and then also the cheap way.

Thank you for you help
