RE: DHCp Problems Post SP1

Thanks for your update. I appreciate your time and efforts to the issue.

Based in my research, there is no access policy configured to manage the
SMTP traffic in ISA 2000. And also the ISA 2000 server can not control
internal traffic between client computers and the SBS server in LAN.

When the issue happened, please run the following command "net stop
isactrl" to stop the ISA services and then restart them to see if the issue
resolved.

For test aim, I also suggest that you disable all third party
anti-virus/spam software on the SBS server to check if the issue happens.

Hi Jenny

Sorry for the delay - just seen the post - I've excluded this folder from
being scanned by AV - note this has worked fine with same AV for nearly 2
years. Only canchee is SP! for SBS2003 (not installed ISA 2004 yet). Using
the Backup Wiz the system will not allow me to exclude the DHCP folder as
it
is required to restore the system!

I thisnk that this is an ISA issue as I notice that certain items in
access
policy keep stopping - I have a seperate post about this. Thanks for your

From the description, I understand the issue is that the DHCP server
does
not work properly to server IP address. If I am off base, please don't
hesitate to let me know.

Let us refer to the following steps to trouble shoot the issue:

I. Have you installed any third party Anti-virus or Backup program on
the
SBS server? If so, the issue may occur if some Anti-virus or Backup
program
is scanning the DHCP databases in the %SystemRoot%\System32\dhcp folder.

1. Please exclude the %systemroot%\System32\dhcp folder and its
subfolders
from the backup and the antivirus software. Then please restart the DHCP
service on the server.

2. Then please logon client computers and update the TCP/IP settings as
follows:

Open a command prompt, type the following commands:

IPCONFIG /RELEASE
IPCONFIG /RENEW

What is the result? Can client computers get IP address from DHCP server?

II. If the issue persists, let us follow the steps below to re-configure
your DHCP server:

1. Run "net stop dhcpserver" at a command prompt.

2. Move the files in your existing DHCP folder
(%SystemRoot%\system32\dhcp)
to a different location.

3. Restart the DHCP server by running "net start dhcpserver" with an
empty
DHCP folder.

4. Run the Change Server IP address tool from Server Management ->
Internet
and E-mail, input the same IP and subnet mask as what the internal NIC
current have and click OK.

Then please renew the IP address of client workstations to see if the
issue
resolved.

III. If the issue still exists, I suggest that we reinstall DHCP Server
service on the SBS Server. To do so:

Step One: Export the current DHCP configuration

1. Log on to the source DHCP server by using an account that is a member
of
the Administrators group.
2. Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
3. Type netsh dhcp server export C:\dhcp.txt all , and then press ENTER.

Step Two: Reinstall DHCP Services.

1. Go to Control Panel, open Add/Remove Programs, select Add/Remove
Windows
Components button.
2. Go to Network Services, click the Details button.
3. Clear the option of DHCP.
4. Click Next to uninstall the DHCP Server.
5. Open Control Panel\Add/Remove programs, select to install DHCP
Services
again.

Step Three: Import the original DHCP configuration

1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Type netsh dhcp server import C:\dhcp.txt all , and then press ENTER.

Then, please check how it goes.

Then please renew the IP address of client workstations to how it goes.

Following from yesterdays post. After SP1 installation DHCP was not
working -
running CEICW and enabling firewall resolved this - during the Wizaed
it
reported that the ISA server (2000) was not running - checking ijn
Services
it claimed it was! Anyway all was well after that. However, this
morning
clients could no longer get a DHCP assigned IP - exactly the same
symtoms
as
yesterday - same solution worked (rerun CEICW and enable firewall -
with
same
report) any ideas? Obviously I don't want to run CEICW every day!
