Re: Can ISA 2004 disconnect the ADSL modem?

Hi Omar,

Thanks for your posting and thanks for Frank's input.

It actually helps if you add a PPPOE capable router.

I also provide the following steps to run CEICW to use modem to connect to
internet, to configure SBS 2003 to use a PPPoE connection, a network
adapter (NIC) is necessary to connect the modem (unless you use a USB
modem). After this, you can then run CEICW and choose a PPPoE connection
type. CEICW will do all the things for you including configuring ISA if you
have it installed. You can refer to the following steps:

1. Make sure you have two NICs - one for LAN and one for the DSL modem (for
example).
2. Connect the modem to the external NIC. You can specify an IP address for
the external NIC (for example, 157.1.1.1/255.255.255.0).
3. Run CEICW and then select Broadband.
4. Click Next and then choose PPPoE as your connection type.
5. Click Next and then select a connection or create a new connection
through clicking New.
6. Follow the wizard to finish it.

For detailed steps, you can refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base
article:

825763 How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server
2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=825763

If you have ISA installed, this CEICW wizard will also automatically
configure ISA actually. We can also manually configure ISA for using a
PPPoE connection. You can refer to the following article to examine the
configurations done by CEICW:

296534 How to Configure ISA Server to Use a PPPoE Connection

Thanks for your time.

Best regards,

| Hi Frank, thank you for your reply;
|
| Because the modem could be configured as PPPoE instead of "bridge only"
| as it is now: this solution would be so acceptable as an addtional
| router?
| Thank you again
