RE: SBS 2003 Reporting - error message

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I have an SBS server with the same issue and tried Crina's suggestion below
without success. We have a web site that is running on port 80 so I changed
the "Default Web Site" to port 82. The DWS only seems to work on port 80.
If I change the DWS back to port 80, then the "Monitoring and Reporting"
works fine. However, since we are running an external facing public web
site, I'm assuming that we can't have both the internal DWS and the external
web site on port 80. So that's why I change DWS port. Any suggestions would
be appreciated.

Thanks, HB

Hi Michael,

Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.

From your description, I understand the issue to be: You receive an error
message when receiving the reports via email. If I have misunderstood your
concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.

This problem may occur if you create a new virtual server on a server that
is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1). By default,
when you use the Web Site Creation Wizard in Microsoft Internet Information
Services (IIS) 6.0 to create a new virtual server on a server that is
running Windows Server 2003 SP1 or later, the Run scripts (such as ASP)
check box is not selected on the Web Site Access Permissions page of the
wizard. When this option is not selected, the Execute permission for the
virtual server is set to use the None setting.

Please try the following steps to solve the issue:

1. Start Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. Expand your server,
and then expand Web Sites.
2. Right-click the Default Web Site, and then click Properties.
3. On the Home Directory tab, under Application settings, in the Execute
permissions box, select Scripts only and click OK.
4. Expand Default Web Site, right-click the Monitoring and click Properties.
5. Go to the Directory Security tab, click the Edit button next to
"Authentication and access control" and make sure that Windows Integrated
Authentication is checked (that should be the only one).
6. Click OK twice, quit Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager and run
"iisreset".

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Crina Li (MSFT)
