Re: RDP Connectiod 721 / 800 Errors

Perhaps I can reply in stages (and I have the arithmetic wrong in two places
- I actually have nine including mine and the BT routers are a 2-wire and an
1800) in fact I'm thinking about becoming a reseller for MS products when you
include the few hundred copies of Office;¬).
The VPN connection is used for a number of reasons:
- it's one-click access (good for Directors - they think signing on once at
home is a chore. Three times is pushing your luck);
- it permits remote users access to applications like Sage utilising the
Server Side Reporting facility, bespoke Access databases and ACT! without
needing a desktop connection at all once they have VPN connection);
- it allows Office (particulary Outlook - Oulook is a killer application -
arrive at airport, find a hot spot, VPN connectoid, synchronise Outlook,
board, do your mail, arrive, check into hotel, find hot spot, synchronise,
off to meeting) to be used on their laptops and integrate with their local
applications;
- it permits local printing without the need to specify that remote printers
must not be USB attached and without the need to install multiple printer
drivers on the Server;
- it works for static workers who are truly remote - no desktop to connect
to (it's difficult to justify expenditure on local PCs for people who are
truly remote);
Frankly I could write a 1000 word eulogy for the precious little thing and
it's free!
I've only recently noticed that it has stopped working on all of the Servers
as it's only on three that it is particularly heavily used. On others people
have been using the RWW work round and it isn't all that popular. I actually
don't use it myself for connection to customers' sites, I use the RWW as I
want console access to their servers.
Unfortunately there is nothing in the client or server logs of any use.
Sorry that this is so wordy. Does any of this help?

Remote connection seems to be a common issue at present.
I look after 7 remote Win2003SBS sites. I now cannot connect to any
of these using the VPN connectiod and am returned either a 721 or 800
error. At three sites this is now become critical as I have remote
users who require access to third party applications (Sage, bespoke
Access databases etc.). All have the latest service packs including
SharePoint SP2.
In all cases I have run the CEICW and RA wizards and specified the
public IP in the RA and created a local web server certificate of the
FQDN (although in no case is the MX or PtrA record stored locally) in
the CEICW. In all cases I have RWW and RDP connectivity.
I have different routers in place which makes it a bit of a moving
target. Some are Netgear DG834s some BT 5Wire and one BT Alcatel
modem. In all cases the relevant ports are forwarded to the Server
(47, 443, 444, 4125, 1701, 1723, 3389 or DMZ).
In all cases I used to be able to access the Servers with at least one
concurrent connection although two was a problem with the DG834s as
they only support one VPN tunnel. I've also tried using a levelOne
WBR-5400 which supports 8 concurrent tunnels.
Where do I start?
OT, but why would remote users accessing databases be using VPN and not
Terminal Services / RWW / RD anyway? I wouldn't recommend that!
That said, I'm not a PPTP expert, but you might check your event logs, and
mention any error messages you get anywhere. Also, if you used to be able to
get into all of them from your location, and can't now, it seems unlikely
that the issue is on the *receiving* end, if you get my drift - what are the
odds that seven networks suddenly developed the same problem?
