The original post went funny so if this re-posts, apologies to all.
Is there any way I can configure the backup utility to backup on to a
targetted tape drive?
I have two DDS4 drives on my system (originally one was obtained as a
spare) and what I'd like to do is schedule one backup job to go to
drive0 and then either simultaneously or shortly after (I don't much
mind which) schedule another job to go to drive1.
The reason for doing this is to avoid the backup spanning tapes and
thus meaning that inthe morning the backup is complete and not
waiting for me to enter another tape.
I want to do this to help with the off-site backup situation. I
already do daily backups to a SAN drive - which is OK but not
wonderfully convenient for helping with off-site stuff. I've read
the posts about USB drives and agree these are reasonably cost
effective but really bulky compared to a DAT tape. Also I figured
that using multiple backup destinations/media (i.e. daily to SAN,
weekly to DAT) might give me a more robust disaster recover scenario
in terms of splitting the risk across many types of media.
So far when I have both DDS4 drives up and running, NTbackup only
gives me the option of 4mm DDS (one choice) or File. If it gave me a
4mm DDS for each drive I'd be laughing :-) (well hopefully would be
laughing)
All thoughts welcome
Thanks
I don't know any way to make NTBackup do this. This is usually the job for a
tape library/autoloader anyway.
