RE: File & ownership permissions keep resetting!

Hi,

Thank you for posting here.

From your post, I understand one folder keeping reset the NTFS permission.

It's really weird, currently, I'd like to suggest you perform the following
steps to narrow down this issue.

Step 1: this issue could be occur because script, did you apply any
specific script on this folder?
=======
To verify that, we can perform a small test:

a. After the permissions being reset again, manually change it back.
b. Run "gpupdate /force" on this problematic server.
c. Now check the permissions on the folder

Step 2: Please create a new folder, does the issue occur again?

Step 3: This issue also could be occur due to third-party antivirus
software, please schedule a down time to perform a clean boot
=========
To do so:
1. Click Start, click Run, type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in
the Open box, and then click OK.
2. In the Startup tab, click the "Disable All" button.
3. In the Services tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" checkbox,
and then click the "Disable All" button.
4. Click OK and restart your computer.

Also please if you can find any relate error application log in event
viewer. You can save the application log as *evt file and send it to me. My
email address: v-chacez@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hope this helps, if you have any other concerns on this issue, please feel
free to let me know.

Have a nice weekend.

Best Regards,

Chace Zhang (MSFT)

| Hi there,
|
| On a 2003 server I have, one folder keeps resetting ownership on
| multiple files inside to "unable to display owner" and also the parent
| folder permissions keep getting wiped and just "everyone" placed with
| full access.
|
| After I reset ownership on the individual files, the security
| permissions are then accessable and I can set them how I need.
|
| This keeps happening from anywhere between 1 day to 3 weeks, I've even
| taken off any inherited permissions and removed any unnecessary ones
| too but it keeps happening.
|
| I cant seem to find any reference to why my one folder does this (and
| the files inside it)
|
| Anyone able to help.
|
| cheers
| Ian
