If this is only SBS, it should be in the LAN. If you want to put the
OWA in the DMZ, it should be the front-end Exchange.

Hmmm. I didn't think you could use a FE/BE config with SBS.... ?

Hi,

I'm planning to run SBS 2003 and I would like the server to host
my already registered domain name. I also have a broadband
connection through another provider, with a DHCP IP address.

My hope is to have SBS host my exchange server with about 10
users, but
I would also like to use OWA to be able to read my emails when I'm
away
from home. I have a 3Com OfficeConnect firewall box with a DMZ
connector aswell as a normal LAN one.

My question is would it best to host the server on my LAN or my
DMZ? I'll also need to get the DNS changed, but thats OK.

Aswell as this, I'd also like to be able to VPN in to my server
if I need to. The firewall allows this.

I'm in the UK, if that makes any difference!

Thanks,
Nick

Thanks for all the replies. Perhaps I should use 2003 Server and
Exchange rather than SBS, from what you've said.

Why?

Someone also
suggested sticking the server on my LAN and hosting OWA on another
server on the DMZ.

Even without SBS, or, if you were able to use SBS and a FE/BE config,
putting the FE Exchange server in your DMZ is not recommended practice.

Nick

Sorry, I must of misunderstood what the guy said. You're saying forget
about the DMZ altogether and host a single server running Exchange on
my LAN.

....and that's exactly what SBS 2003 does very nicely-also consider Outlook
2003 connecting via RPC/HTTP instead of OWA for your remote mail needs.
