Re: dhcp address

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

hi Cris, the grandstreams dont have that option (though it is on the
polycom's)

to be honest I've just programmed them in with fixed ip's but would be nice
not to have to do that.

Do these phones have an option for BOOTP, there is a setting in DHCP for
specifying BOOTP parameters

I seem to remember a similar posting about a year ago?

In article <_EpJg.26944$v82.24013@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>,
collins_dean@"spam-me-here"hotmail.com says...

i have a problem for non computer reserved ip's (we have ip phones)
basically if they get rebooted the only way to get an ip address
allocated
is going
over to the sbs server, opening up dhcp console.

once the console is open ip addresses are allocated fine, it's
basically
like it is sleeping and needs to be woken up.

any thoughts on what I can do to fix this? pc's logging on seem to work
fine.

Have not used IP phones, so I'm really taking a stab in the dark here.

Just to confirm: The IP phones are not getting their addresses via DHCP
and all you have to do is login to the SBS and launch the DHCP MMC to
get them to do so. You don't need to drill down in the MMC, change
settings, etc. - just launch the MMC and it works. Is that right?

PCs normally get their IP addresses when they boot up; the address is
already assigned by the time a login occurs.

Just for grins, have you verified the SBS DHCP Server service is set to
Automatic and Started?

The only things that I can think of - and neither of these sound like a
strong candidate - is [1] the DHCP request from an IP phone is slightly
non-standard (does the phone documentation say they can get IP addresses
from any DHCP server?) or [2] there is a router between the SBS network
and the IP phone network. Routers often require special configuration
to relay DHCP requests to/from a subnet other than the one the DHCP
server is on.

Hi Owen,
Yep, just MMC....eg dhcp is already running - Just asleep.
and yes ip phones work with any dhcp server - in fact used to work for
the last 2 years with SBS, i've only just recently noticed that it wasn't
working about a month ago.

Cheers,
Dean
