Users should be able to log in from more than one PC at the same time
without problems. The only thing that would happen if she opened the same
doc from 2 PCs at once is, the second instance would open read-only.

Sooooo.... that all being said, then if leaving My Doc syncing enabled
on both, would best course of action be to simply keep the laptop off
while working on the desktop, or do you think everything would work
just fine even having both machines logged in as long as she isn't
trying to work on the same document at the same time... which wouldn't
make any sense to do anyways!
Thanks,
Sean

I agree Dave
In most cases it is wise to leave sync enabled for MyDocument folders
especially in an office environment. In my case it's just myself and one
other person and we both have sync enabled on our laptops so we're not
left
out in the cold if connectivity goes away. But I didn't go into that
much
detail in my post so I can see how it would taken as bad advice!

If you go to the Users page in the Server Mgmt console, you can run the
wizard again to disable redirection. I'm fairly sure this will put the
currently redirected My Docs directories back to the user profiles on
the
client PCs, but you'll definitely want to check to make sure of that.
I don't agree that you don't need sync for wired workstations. I know
that in my office, if the server goes down and my users can't access
any
documents, I will be having an extremely bad day. Even a failed
network
switch or other minor inconvenience can idle your whole staff while you
arrange for a replacement.
If you don't want to use synchronization, check out Second Copy
http://www.secondcopy.com/. There are a substantial number of
configuration options, so I recommend getting the trial version and
digging into it a little. I have a couple of laptop users who use this
very happily (to back up files from the laptop to an external drive
while
connected to the network, not as a replacement for offline files).

By default setup all the clients are setup for My Documents being
available offline since they are redirected? What's the best way to
change this behavior for existing clients and future clients on my
network? SBS 2003 Std / Win XP Pro SP2 clients. I agree, the syncing
does not seem necessary for wired clients.

Personally I don't have my Desktop configured to sync. It's on a
solid
LAN
connection so I don't worry about it. I do have my laptop configured
to
sync and have been happy with how it works.

Ok, I have a client that has both a laptop and a
workstation/desktop.
She still wants to be able to use both (and sometimes uses both at
the
same time). I want to set things up so that synchronization
happens
between each one, but I am a little concerned about offline files
handling this type of scenario (or any software for that matter).
What's the best re-course? Have her not use the laptop/desktop at
the
same time, and if wanted to work from home after working on the
desktop, to open up the laptop and sync it right before going home?
Is
there any other options?
Thanks,
Sean
