Re: companyweb and default site stopped, won't start

Thank you! Uninstalling the Belkin utility solved the problem in one step.
On to new things!

I'm setting up a new SBS 2003. I haven't done much other than install it
and
configure users on the server. Generally everything worked fine up to
today.

Now I'm trying to set up user computers and remote access. I can access
the
server shared folders from user computers and make the user computers log
in
to the domain. When I tried to access the 'connectcomputer' function, I
got
a login dialog. The login box would not accept the user name, and would
error out to a screen with "Authentication Error!" in red. Same with
trying
to access "companyweb" from the user computer. I could access
"companyweb"
from the server console.

Following some user group instructions for similar problems, I modified
the
IIS security settings for the companyweb site to include windows
authentication. Not only did this not work, it broke companyweb and the
default web site on the server console. Both sites are stopped and can't
be
started. When I try, I get "the process cannot access the file because it
is
being used by another process." When I try to access the stopped web
sites
anyway from the server console, I get the same login screen and then
"Authentication Error!". Reversing my steps doesn't repair the problem.
I've tried running the "connect to the internet" wizard, but that doesn't
make a difference. I've restarted IIS and I've rebooted, but no
difference.

And why does the login dialog box say "Delta UPS Web"? That baffles me
completely. "Delta UPS Web" returns no hits at all on Google, which is
spooky because I'd really hate to be the only person with this problem.

This server is acting as the DHCP server for network. There is an
existing
W2K domain controller on the network but with a different domain name.
Once
I get the SBS server running, the W2K server gets demoted.

Any questions or hints appreciated.
