Re: Intranet from outside

The POP3 and IMAP services are disabled, by default, on SBS2003. Go to the
Services mgmt and enable them.

Please note: perosnally I would recommend having your outside clients use
IMAP instead of POP3 to fetch their emails. Some people will say they *need*
POP3, but that's only because they have never used IMAP. Virtually all email
clients will support both POP3 and IMAP.

POP3 and IMAP are "kissing cousins" --- they both pull down email from the
server to the remote computer or pda. One difference is that with IMAP, the
original copy of the email is left on the server, whereas with POP3 the
defualt is to deletwe the email form the server onces it's been downloaded/

Also, there have been some recent glitches with the POP3 services, but none
with the IMAP.

So, enable the IMAP service, and then let the user setup his email client
pointing to the SBS public ip addr/domain name, load in their SBS username
and password and you should be ready to rock and roll.

Another thing that clients from outside now can't do is download the
mail directly from their mail client (outlook 2003) from pop3 (but
outlook web access and SMTP work).
How can i make accessible the pop3 from outside?
thanks

I want to make accessible from outside part of my default intranet web
site. (with an authentication)

I follow the internet connection task, outlook is accessible, and also
the home page of my default intranet home page, also without
authentication. (inetpub/wwroot).
I made a subdirectory in wwroot called "intranet", inside the domain is
accessible, but from outside i can't open the page.

Does anyone can help me in solving this issue.
I know it's a banal thing, but i installed sbs 2003 in my network only
some days ago (i make a migration from sbs 4.5, and with my old sbs the
intranet was accessible from outside with a basic authentication)

thanks!
