You appear to be correct about cause. Services now run for a couple of
hours instead of < 1 hour before stopping. It is difficult to
determine cause and effect for events, as once all these services stop
the system starts generating a lot of events. I did not get the
application error this time so perhaps the application error was caused
by the exchange queue. This time I changed all the services that
stopped to have a recovery from failure to restart the service after
every failure.
This time the following services had to be restarted
workstation service
task scheduler
shell hardware detection serivce
secondary logon
routing and remote access
remote access connection manager
messenger
help and support
cryptographic services
computer browser
server
logical disk manager
automatic updates
the service windows management instrumentation provider does not start
get error 1053
I don't seem to be getting any system everts that say the services are
stopping.
The exchange server was upgraded to sp2 1st of august. We have been
running fine since then until Friday. I am a bit reluctant to install
any updates until I know why these services are stopping as I am in a
remote location and cannot answer questions posed by software at the
console. Not sure about sp1 of server. It does not appear on system
property page and not sure how to tell if its installed. I am planning
to update machine as soon as I am there. The serivces have been
running for almost 3 hours now so I just plan to watch and see if they
restart as they are not configured to do.
