Re: Remote Access to anything on the server

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

you say the ports are open, but on the router the ports need to be pointed
to the IP address of your internal NIC card on the SBS server.

Are you running an SBS server at home, as well? if so, check to see if youa
re using the same internal LAN IP schema as for your work side. That could
be the problem

10060 errors indicate ISA is blocking you.

Do you have ISA Firewall installed on your laptop? If so, try disabling it,
and try disabling proxy from IE > Internet options > Connects > LAN
settings.

I've hunted through the various threads on this issue and while I thought
I
came close to the answer, regretfully I either have missed it or simply
can't
see it.

Heres the issue.

After lots of learnings (mess-ups!) I finally managed to get a stable SBS
server running with exchange and ISA. I know that doesn't sound a lot but
exchange did cause me problems (I wanted POP email fetch, SMTP email send)
All resolved now and 100% down to incompetence at my end - not the
product.

One of the issues that took me ages to solve was the email - fortunately I
did find a bulletin about sharing the same domain and using SMTP. Long
version short, you have to manually set some stuff within the recipient
policies to get it functioning.

OK, the issue. the server works great. I can access it from the
workstations as expected AND I can use a workstation on the LAN to access
the
server via the intranet - so I can get web mail up while on the LAN. If I
then take my laptop out into the internet (via my home link) and try to
access my server - not much happens.

I get the web error:

The page cannot be displayed
Explanation: The request timed out before the page could be retrieved.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Try the following:

Refresh page: Search for the page again by clicking the Refresh button.
The
timeout may have occurred due to Internet congestion.
Check spelling: Check that you typed the Web page address correctly. The
address may have been mistyped.
Contact website: You may want to contact the website administrator to make
sure the Web page still exists. You can do this by using the e-mail
address
or phone number listed on the website home page.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Technical Information (for support personnel)

Error Code 10060: Connection timeout
Background: There was a time out before the page could be retrieved. This
might indicated that the network is congested or that the website is
experiencing technical difficulties.

--------------------------------------------------------------

I have to say that this is an advance on what I was getting (i.e. normal
nothing there failure page)

I'm hoping that someone will be able to tell me what to do without running
the CEICW. Sorry but everytime I run that from now on I have to manually
fix
the email settings to get exchange fully operational again. I think I
have
ports 443, 444, 4125 open on both my modem/router and ISA but I'd
appreciate
clarification on the latter especially.

Help. Doubtless if I knew where to look I could work it out but frankly,
I'm lost.

Hope to hear from someone soon

Thanks
