OK....I have to adjust my posts here. The clients do get their updates from
the "Security Server" which resides on SBS and SBS get those updates from
Trend's ActiveUpdate server by default. There is a place where you can set
client machines to get updates directly from Trend if a client will be out
of the office for an extended period and not be available on the LAN to get
updated. That option is under the Security Settings tab and then Desktop
Privileges. I think that sets anything in that group of computers to get
updates directly from Trend and not just one machine.

Here is some added information from the Trend Help in CSM v3
Setting the Component Update Source
During manual or scheduled downloads, the Security Server checks the
location you have specified for the update source and downloads the latest
components from that source. Once the Security Server has completed
downloading the latest components, the Client computers download those
components from the Security Server.
a.. If you define a source other than the Trend Micro ActiveUpdate Server
for receiving updates, then all computers receiving updates must have
access to that source.
Trend Micro recommended settings for the Update Source
a.. Use the ActiveUpdate server for the component download source. This
is the default setting.
a.. If you use a proxy server to connect to the Internet, make sure you
properly configure your proxy settings to download updates successfully.
To set the update source, select one of the following locations:
a.. Trend Micro's ActiveUpdate Server
Trend Micro ActiveUpdate Server is the Trend Micro default setting for the
download source.
Trend Micro uploads new components to the ActiveUpdate server as soon as
they are available. Select the ActiveUpdate server as a source if you
require frequent and timely updates.
a.. Intranet location containing a copy of the current file
Download your components from an Intranet source that receives updated
components. Type the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path of another
server on your network, and set up the \Web\ActiveUpdate directory on that
target server as a shared folder available to all computers receiving the
updates.
a.. Other update source
Download your components from an Internet or other source. Make the target
HTTP virtual directory (Web share) available to all servers receiving the
updates.

Hi, I'm new to Trend CSM and have a quick question:
is it possible to get the client installations to go directly
to the trend website for virus def updates if the CSM
server is unavailable?
