Re: Adding backup DC to a SBS2003

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Nothing to it, really. Install Server 2k3 on a machine. Create an account
for it on the SBS Server using the add server wizard. Join it to the domain
using connectcomputer. Promote it to be a domain controller by running
DCPromo on it. Install your standalone version of SQL Server on it. Set up
whatever replication you need for SQL Server using SQL Server's tools
(outside the scope of my expertise. I know how to do this in Oracle, but not
SQL Server.)

That's it, really. And buy the necessary CALs, of course.

Hi All,

I have SBS2003

For purposes of redundancy / backup/ contingency, I wish to add a
separate
(2nd) Server2003 server as a 'backup domain controller' (for AD and sql
server).

I was reading a group conversation between a few guys (anthony, leonid
and james).

My scenario is similar, and basically leonid respond must of it. I want
to present my scenario to see what you think.

a server with SBS2003.

a BDC so if the first server go south my users can still log in to the
domain.
And have SQL server on my BDC, to make a daily replication of the data
between the sbs server and this BDC, so if the sbs crash, my users can
access de domain and use the main app that has the DB in SQl Server.

I don't care about the exchange, it will be in the backup, and when we
put back to business the sbs, we will restart the backup.

I don't care about the internet either.

Can you guide me, as you guide anthony.

Regards,

Carlos Gomez.
