Can you start the services manually? If you can figure out the dependencies
first, you should be able to figure out which is the first one to fall over,
giving you a start for troubleshooting. Or at least if you could get the
event log services started, that would be an obvious benefit. Event log
does not depend on any other services, so maybe if it fails to start it'll
give you a useful reason.
At first glance, I'm not worried about the NIC since I suspect a stopped
service may be causing it not to appear. I would try to start services one
at a time, not starting any 3rd party (non-Microsoft) services yet, and
starting with those like event log that don't depend on others. IMO the
first step for this is to figure out what service is acting up. You're
probably seeing a domino effect where one is stopping the others. I'd be a
little concerned about a virus or other malware, not for any specific
reason, but it seems like stopping event logging might be a malware action.
On the other hand, I wouldn't think something like that would shut down
networking. You've just got to narrow it down to the specific cause,
whatever that ends up to be.
BTW, the "net start" command, used with no parameters, will give you a list
of the running services. What's needed here, though, is a look at the
services that should be running but are not.

Hi,
It started with users not able to access any data through the internet. I
had a look at the workstations and could not ping the server. Tried the
usual, give it a restart and all that.
I then discovered that while the network card was in Device Manager, it
was
not in Network Connections. Also, IPConfig implies there is no network
card.
I went off to have a look at the event logs, and the event log service is
not running. I can see events, however nothing new is being added, and if
I
click on any events, no details come up.
I then went to have a look at the services panel, and discovered very few
services are running. Some AV services, and a few odd ones such as print
spooler and a few others (I can send through a list of all started and not
if
needed, will take a while to type out though.)
More importantly, I think the dependancies on Workstation and Server
services may be causing the issue. The Workstation service simply says
'failed to start' and of course i can't check in the event viewer why.
Any ideas? Any more desired information I'll be glad to send.
Regards,
Chris
