Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for your update. I really appreciate your time and efforts to the
issue.
The error event 3206 usually happens when a logon script is edited or the
file/directory is somehow locked by another process.
For the fax service issue, please strictly follow the steps below to
trouble shoot the issue:
Step 1: Perform clean boot on the SBS server.
1) Run MSCONFIG.EXE.
2) In the Services tab, click "Hide All Microsoft Services" and click
"Disable All".
3) In the Startup tab, click "Disable All". Click OK. (This will
temporarily prevent third-party programs from running automatically during
start-up.)
4) Restart the computer.
Step 2: Delete the following keys and files:
1) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Fax
2) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Fax
3) HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Telephony/Country List
4) HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Telephony/Locations
registry Keys
5) C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\fax
6) The ''SBSMIS-FAX.log'' file under ''C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs''.
7) The ''SBSMSI-faxcfg.log'' file under ''C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs''.
8) The ''faxsetup.log'' file under ''C:\WINDOWS\''.
Step 3: Uninstall and reinstall the windows fax service from Add/Remove
Windows Components
Step 4: Uninstall and reinstall the SBS fax services from Add/Remove
Programs -> Windows Small Business Server 2003 -> Component Selection-> fax
services
Then please test to see if the SBS fax service is installed successfully.
If the issue persists, please collect the following information and mail me
for analyze:
1. The ''SBSMIS-FAX.log'' file under ''C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs''.
2. The ''SBSMSI-faxcfg.log'' file under ''C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs''.
3. The ''faxsetup.log'' file under ''C:\WINDOWS\''.
4. Please run command "msinfo32" (no quotation marks) on the SBS server box
to collect the system information to a .nfo file to send to me. My working
mailbox: v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
5£® Please save the System and Application logs as .evt format and send to
me for analyze.
I appreciate your time and cooperation. I am glad to be assistance to you
Have a nice day!

Hi Jenny
I got stuck with the fax uninstall-reinstall
I went ahead with the original issue we disussed, namely the Fax
uninstall-reinstall but came across problems doing this.
I am unable to reinstall the fax comp + service.
I noticed a similar problem you discussed in a post of March this year with
soemone else .
I went through the steps you disussed including a clean boot + disabled all
running programes virus + spam chek etc
But it seems the fax service is not installing fully compeletely. The fax
program files are not apearing under the program files after selecting to
instal fax component services
The process appears to proceed normally, but the fax services are not
installed after the procedure, or if one tries to start the fax service a
mesage comes up that the fax service was started then stopped.
The event viewer gives error 3206
As the fax is not appearing under programme files, there is No faxcfg file
under prog files etc
PLEASE HELP, WE CANNOT FAX THE WHOLE DAY!!!! AND I spent plenty of hours
trying to get it to work!!
I am copying you some logs that wil hopefully help??
With thks
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for your update. I appreciate your time. I am sorry for the delayed

analyze:
1. Please capture a screen shot of the error message when tried to modify
the windows firewall setting on the client computer. Please mail the image
to my working mailbox: v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
2. Please save the Application, System and Security logs as .evt format on
the client computer and send to me for analyze.
3. Please help me collect the GPO policy report.
You can locate the policie in Group Policy Management console, right click
the policy to choose Save Reports.. item to save the policy report. Please
mail them to me.

Thanks Jenny,
Interesting!!
I have looked at most of these steps now, and it is probably related to
firewall.client
On soem of the Clients, if I disable the firewall, the GPO does connect.
Interestingly I had no problems connecting on any Client via RDC or
Terminal services with the firewall enabled.
I use DHCP for IP control on the whole network.
Nothing specific is set on the gateway on any client [it remains blank]
Remote Admin exception is enabled in GPO
I use WSUS on all clients and they are al patche dup to date.
I can acces exceptions on the firewall settings on Clients, and the
firewall is ON, but cannot be set to OFF!
I will look at the firewall issues you mentioned here.
While I was disabling the firewall on some Clients, I still have one
at least that gives me no access even with the firewall disabled.WINS
YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISISON TO PERFORM THIS OPERAITON
ACCESS IS DENIED
I CAN connect to this Client via termianl Services form the Server, even
with teh firewal ON.
Can you advise me on why this migth be happening on this specifc Client?
I am unaware of making any different settings on this Client to any of the
others.

Dear Jenny
Your assistance is most appreciated.
I will look at all these issues over a quite period.
I forgot to mention another issue which might also be relevant, but would
appreciate advice if possible.
When I try and test GPO results. I get RPC error with a DOM issue on the
event viewer, when I try and check the results on Client computers.
I did do a search on this error, and the closest I came to was correcting
was a WMI Security issue on a specific programme related to the link on
event viewer error.
I do not remember which programme was referenced.
I went through the process of getting the correct security access for
listedWMI extension, but I still continue getting the RPC error message whenbut
trying to test the GPO result.
I have attached a combined screenshot of the RPC message and the related
event viewer detail.
Please tell me if I must start a different thread for all my questions,
the issues may somehow be linked??Wizard.
Many thanks again.

Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for your update. I appreciate your time.
I. You are right. I am sorry for missing some sentences in the previous
post. The steps as follows:
The detail steps to install share fax client as follows:
1). Start server management console, locate Client Computers node, click
Set Up Client Applications link to start Set Up Client Applications
2). In Available Applications page ensure the Shared fax client is

3). When users logon to domain from client computers next time, these
client applications will be launched to install.
II. Yes, you can remove the Outlook from Add/Remove Programs. And also
can use Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove Outlook totally.
1. Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

2. After you install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, click Start
menu-> All
Programs-> Windows Install Clean Up.
3. Highlight Microsoft Outlook 2003 entry in the list and then click
Remove. Quit the Utility.
Note: If you need not use the whole Office 2003, you can remove them all.
III. To the folder redirection GPO issue:
From the GPO image, that indicates that there is no any application dataredirection policy configured here. The issue may occur due to that you
changed the folder name. You can convert the folder name to the original
name to see it the GPO settings back. However I can not guarantee the
process successfully since I do not know how and when the GPO setting is
removed.
And also please ensure the permissions of the folder that used to place
each user folder configured properly. Please check as follows:
1. NTFS permissions:
Domain Admin: Full Control
Domain Users: Special - Apply onto "This folder and files" -
Allow: Traverse Folder/Execute Files, List Folder/Read Data, Read
Attributes, Read Extended Attributes, Create Folders/Append Data, Read
Permissions
System: Full Control
SBS Folder Operators: Full Control
2. Sharing permissions:
Domain Admins, Domain Users, SBS Folder Operators: Full Control
If the GPO setting does not back, you have to re-configure it.

Dear Jenny
Your detailed advice is very much appreciated.
I would like to do this process on a weekend or during a period that I
have some more time.
Was there something missing after the following sentence?
will be setup automatically. You can not setup share fax in client side.
The detail steps to install share fax client:
Regarding Outlook, I never use it on the Server, but I will REMOVE!!
Can I do this by simply using Add/Remove Programmes? or do I need to do
anything further?
As an extra issue which may be of relevance?, if I may ask?
I found some strange issues on my GPO, where I made some changes early
corruptthein the installaltion od SBS, to folder redirection.
But later on when I wanted to reverse some of these changes I cannot get
access to any of these user options under Folder redirection.
These GPO items are just missing!!
I removed altogether the actual policy group I had created.
I tried using regsvr to reregister these items, but it did not help??
Is there anything on the Server Information system, that helps to solve
this issue?? I have attached a screen shot to show the problem!!
My feeling is that it has something to do with the fact that I changed
"User" folder at one stage to a different name, and I then reverted itback
to the standard user folder name??
I am using roaming profiles and they are all working fine for at least 8
months now since I noticed this issue.
Any Advice??
With thanks
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for your time to perform tests and collect information.
I. Based on my research, the issue may occur due to some file is
wholein
Windows fax service. I would like to suggest that we reinstall the
Components,Files\MicrosoftSBS 2003 shared fax to resolve the issue. The detail steps:
A. Rename the keys and files below to *.old
1) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Fax
2) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Fax
3) C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\fax
4) The ''SBSMIS-FAX.log'' file under ''C:\Program
Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs''.registry
5) The ''SBSMSI-faxcfg.log'' file under ''C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs''.
6) The ''faxsetup.log'' file under ''C:\WINDOWS\''.
B. Delete the following registry keys:
HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Telephony/Country List
HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Telephony/Locations
Keys
C. Access Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows
toBusiness2003''uncheck ''Fax Services'' to uninstall it.
D. Once it is uninstalled, access Add/Remove Programs to
reinstall it.
E. Then, access ''Add/Remove Programs again'', this time, we
will click ''Change/Remove'' on the ''Windows Small Business Server
Serveritem:
1) Click ''Next'' on the ''Microsoft Windows Small Business
Setup'' page.
2) Click ''Next'' on the ''Windows Configuration'' page.
Note: It states that ''This will take approximately 30 minutes'', it is
referring to the total time it will take in the first SBS component
installation. For the task such as remove a specific component, it will
just take couple of minutes.
3) Now, in the ''Component Selection'' page, choose ''Remove''
before the ''Fax Services'' item.
4) Click ''Next'', and then click ''Next'' again to confirm
''Component Summary''. You will be prompted to insert the SBS 2K3 setup
Disc 1.
G. Once the removal process is completed, access ''Windows Small
Server setup'' again in ''Add/Remove Programs'', proceed to the''Component
Selection'' page, and then choose ''Install'' for the ''Fax Services''item
to reinstall fax service.
And then we should push the shared fax client application from server
productionclient workstations by Deploy Client Application. When users logonsteps
workstations again, the Shared Fax Client application will be setup
automatically. You can not setup share fax in client side. The detail
to install share fax client:
Then please test the issue again to check if every thing is ok now.
II. From the server system information, the Office 2003 including the
Outlook 2003 installed on the SBS server box. We do not support the
coexistence of Outlook and Exchange on the same computer in a
followingofenvironment. Because versions of these two products produce a conflict
the MAPI subsystem. The Detail information is addressed in the
servicesarecorrespondingarticle.that
Microsoft does not support installing Exchange Server components and
Outlook on the same computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;266418
Please remove the outlook from the SBS server first.
Note: since the SBS 2003 is a production server, it is not recommended
installing application such as Office on it.
I appreciate your time!
Have a nice day!

Jenny Wu
