Offline files...not ready for prime time.

I don't use offline files, but I do redirect My Documents. Not the desktop;
I just warn users not to store anything on their desktops or I will smack
them silly.

That's akin to storing all of your paperwork in drawers. Do you tell
cubicle workers not to use their physical desktop because a central
file repository is more convenient for admin access? Seems a waste to
administratively discourage use of a major feature of a GUI simply
because one particular OS manufacturer deems animated Office icons a
higher priority than a fully-functional Desktop. Look in any design or
production environment, and I'll guarantee that you'll find double the
GB on the desktop than you'll find in a personal folder. Some of us
grew up with coax/BNC Thinnet and Cat3 Ethernet cables. Even with
Gigabit Ethernet and fast servers and RIPs, there is a lot of work done
at the desktop before moving up to server workflow or storage.

I'm tired of watching all of my
desktop icons disappear, then pushing F5 to redraw the desktop. I'm
tired of disabling the empty QuickLaunch from the taskbar and
re-enabling it to get icons back.

I'm tired of locking and sleeping my portable and losing the
connection in the morning. Only printers and cached files are
available, unless I explicity browse to \\server\d$\folder.

Microsoft is at least 5-10 years behind user needs when it comes to
roaming of any sort, and the need to hot desk and/or log in at
multiple physical or remote sessions.

Use terminal services and all that goes away. :)

Ah, yes. Photoshop via TS. And 15-bit color. And on a moving train.
And 60-90MB Access database files. And GBs of video and audio files.

TS is better for customer service, office, and accounting tasks. Not
for heavy users (those of us who carry 10-pound portables). We use RDP
to the TServer for access to alternate versions of accounting and MRP
software without conflict. Also faster than VPN from home.

I guess we're a bunch of non-conformists. :)
