Pro: incorrectly addressed messages are simply refused by the server - no
virus or spam scanning, Exchange doesn't even issue an NDR (the sending
server issues the NDR). You don't have any overhead or work to deal with
incorrectly addressed messages.
Con: People can attempt to get your valid addresses since when Exchange
blocks an incorrectly addressed message, it indicates that as the reason. I
don't worry about this personally, and you can minimize the effect by
configuring tarpitting.
In an SBS-sized Exchange organization, I hate to think of how many million
invalid addresses there are for each valid one. My personal opinion is that
the benefits vastly outweigh the risks, and that turning on the filtering is
a no-brainer.
