Hello Jenny,
Sorry for late response but since having the problem I have reverted back
to using a single nic with an external firewall since the two nics were
giving me such a headache. However I will strive to attempt the two nic
configuration again and follow the steps you have outlined to solve the
problem. Will be in touch soon. Thanks again
Kind Regards,

Hi Conrad,
Thanks for your time to perform test and collect information.
I. Let us check the DNS server settings as follows:
1. Start DNS Manager by clicking Start, pointing to Programs, pointing to
Administrative Tools, and then clicking DNS.
2. Right click the DNS Server node, select Properties. Go to the
tab, make sure that there is NO SBS Server's IP is listed there.l
3. Still in Forwarders tab, please make sure the IP address of ISP listed
in forwarder ip address list.
4. Under the Root Hints tab, make sure "." is not listed in the Root Hints
Server list.
II. Make sure DNS Dynamic Registration is not disabled. You can check the
following registry key, please ensure the value set as "0":
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Disab
eDynamicUpdatethe
For more detail information, please take a look at the following article:
246804 How to enable or disable dynamic DNS registrations in Windows 2000
and
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=246804
III. After verify above settings, on SBS server and client computers that
are running Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional,
open a command prompt window, and then run the following commands to renew
the DNS record.
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
net stop netlogon
net start netlogon
net stop dns
net start dns
Then please test to see if the issue resolved.
If the issue persists, please help me collect the following information:
1. Please use NSLookup command on the SBS server box to query DNS records
and send me the output.
To do so, please follow the steps below:
1. Click Start->Run, type "cmd" (without quotes) and then press Enter.
2. Type "nslookup" (without quotes) and then press Enter.
3. Type "set D2" (without quotes) and then press Enter.
4. Type any local host name and press Enter. Please paste the output to
newsgroup or mail me.the
5. Type any external FQDN (e.g. www.microsoft.com) and press Enter. Please
paste the output to the newsgroup or mail me.
2. Please run "netdiag /v > C:\servernet.txt" on the SBS 2003 server box
and run command "netdiag /v > C:\clientnet.txt" on one computer computer.
Then please mail me the both file.
3. Please run command "msinfo32" (no quotation marks) on the server box
again to collect System Information for me. Also please let me know IP
addresses of your router and IP address of ISP.
I appreciate your time. I am glad to be further assistance to you.

Hello Jenny,
To confirm, the problem we are having is that the server cannot resolve
internet addresses. Therefore it can not be used as the dns server for
client machines, if the clients want to browse the internet.
I have attached what you requested. I hope this helps
Thankyou.

It appears to me that you have your internal and external NICS reversed.
Also as Jenny says DNS should only point to the Ihe Internal NIC

Hello,
I have SBS 2003 setup with two NICs.
The ip address of the external NIC has its own subnet compared to
internal

Not using DHCP
DNS forwarders are setup
However the DNS Server on the SBS 2003 box will not resolve internet
addresses (external IP's). I dont understand why. Please help.
