Re: Multiple copies of the Language Bar

Hi Psiuyo,

Thanks for your update. I appreciate your time. I am sorry for the delayed
response due to my sick leave and weekend.

Based on my research, this is a reported problem for the Windows 2003 SP1.
The issue will be fixed in the Vista. Thanks for your understanding.

We can use the following method to workaround the issue:

1. Stop explorer.exe (using TaskMgr for example).

2. Delete the registry key values: "Taskbar" and "TaskbarWinXP" under the
following regkey (if they exist):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams
\Desktop

3. Restart explorer (using TaskMgr for example).

Then please test the issue again and let me know the result.

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jenny Wu

Hi, thanks for the response. I've answered the Qs and attached a
couple nfo files and a ss so you can see the problem. Also, in
addition to sometimes adding new language bars, they also tend to move
around from logon to logon, shifting left and right along the taskbar.
1) Both the Windows 2003 Standard servers and the SBS2003 are all at
SP1 with the most recent updates applied. We are using any citrix
software, and the problem is the complete opposite than described in
that KB918184.
2) We generally don't use any accounts on the servers aside from
Administrator, but doing a quick test with another Domain Admin account
doesn't seem to raise the issue, but it's hard to say since I'm not
exactly sure what causes it in the first place.
3) No, only appears to happen on the 2003 servers (**Note, all 2003
servers are DCs, we don't have any 2003 non-DC servers to test with)
4) No roaming profiles or redirects of any sort
5) Rebooting and disabling all nonMS services makes no difference.
Also, new servers have been built on different hardware and they all
exhibit the same issues without any third party products installed.
Doesn't matter which clients we log in from either.
6) Emailed
7) Emailed, also you can view here

Hi Psiuyo,

Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup!

I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand
that
the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to
answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!

From the description, I understand the issue is that there are many
copies
language bar and other items copies showed in the taskbar when you RDP to
the Windows 2003 server or an SBS 2003 server. If I am off base, please
don't hesitate to let me know.

The issue is indeed specified. Let us perform the following tests to
trouble shoot the issue:

1. What is the service packs level of the terminal server. Have you
applied
the Windows 2003 SP1 to the terminal server? Please check into the
following article to see if it is the resolution.

The Windows Language bar closes unexpectedly when you start a Citrix
Presentation Server-published application on a Windows Server 2003
SP1-based computer that runs Terminal Services
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=918184

2. Does the issue happen on the specific user account or all user
accounts?
Please close all RDP sessions on both servers and try to RDP to them with
other user accounts to test the issue, what is the result? And please try
to create a new domain admin using Add user wizard and then test the
issue,
what is the result?

3. Does the issue happen when you RDP to XP workstations?

4. Have you enabled roaming profile of the problematic user account?

5. Please book a non-business time and perform a clean boot on the server
box and test the issue again to see if it helps. A Clean Boot will allow
us
to isolate any device drivers or programs that are loading at startup
that
may be causing a conflict with other device drivers or programs that are
installed in your computer.

1) Run MSCONFIG.EXE.
2) In the Services tab, click "Hide All Microsoft Services" and click
"Disable All".
3) In the Startup tab, click "Disable All". Click OK. (This will
temporarily prevent third-party programs from running automatically
during
start-up.)
4) Restart the computer and check whether the problem still persists.

If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related
to
one application or service we have disabled. You can use the MSCONFIG
tool
again to re-enable the disabled item one by one to find out the culprit.

6. Please run command "msinfo32" (no quotation marks) on the SBS server
box
and the Windows 2003 server to launch System Information console. And
click
File and then Save. Save the system information to a .nfo file to send to
me. My working mailbox: v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

7. Please capture some screen shots of the symptom and send to my working
mailbox: v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx for analyze.

I appreciate your time. I am happy to be of assistance to you and look
forward to your reply.

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jenny Wu

Hi, I have a problem exactly as described in this thread from a few
months ago:

http://groups.google.ca/group/microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs/browse_th

read/thread/f0a9239e36885693/4fa0074929a26f49?lnk=st&q=&rnum=1&hl=en#4fa0074
929a26f49

Whenever I use RDP to connect to a Win2k3 or an SBS2003 server I seem
to gather more and more copies of the language bar in the taskbar, as
well the other items (quicklaunch, normal program aread) get shuffled
around and shifted. I can close them off but they come back after a
few more RDP connections. There was no resolution in the above linked
thread so I was hoping someone could shed some light on this? Thanks
