Hi Phil,
In general, unless you have "shift work" (multiple users potentially using
multiple computers during the 24 hour work day), User CALs are the way to
go. With Per User licensing a user can authenticate to the SBS server using
any device (LAN workstation, PDA, mobile device, home computer, etc.). The
CAL is directly tied to the user until that user permanently leaves the
company, with some exceptions for CAL reassignment for temporary situations.
Device CALs are permanently tied to a specific device (LAN workstation, PDA,
Mobile device, home computer) until their end-of-life and may not be as
flexible in the licensing scheme.
With 6 users you would need to buy a 5-CAL User pack in addition to the five
CALs that come with SBS 2003. Those first five CALs can be assigned as all
User, all Device, or any combination of the two CAL types.

I'm not clear on the licensing approach to adopt for sbs. I have 7
computers used by 6 staff, what would bethe best licensing model to adopt?
If I opt for per user licensing are they transferable between individuals
if staff come and go?
cheers
phil
