RE: SQL Server Agent Logon Issue (SBS 2003)

Hi Barry,

Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup. Many thanks for Bassplayer's input.

From your description, I understand the issue is that when you started SQL
Server Agent, you received the following error message:
Error 1069: The service did not start due to a logon failure.

If I am off base, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Yes, as Bassplayer said, the issue may occur due to that the password for
the SQL Server startup service account or the SQL Server Agent startup
service account is not correct. Let us refer to the following steps to
trouble shoot the issue:

1. Open services console (Start -> Control panel -> Administrative Tools ->
services windows).

2. Selected the specific MSSQLserver service instance (For a named instance
of SQL Server, the instance name should be like as MSSQL$YourInstanceName)
and open its properties page.

3. Under LOG ON tab, please ensure log on AS --> LOCAL SYSTEM ACCOUNT
option is checked. If not, you can check the option and reboot the service
to see if the issue resolved.

4. If you would like to logon some instances with a account, you can check
the option "This account" and input correct domain admin user account and
password. Restart the service to see if the issue resolved.

This is a service account problem. You do not use the SA account for this
as
this requires a Windows account. Check out
