I use some form of VNC (RealVNC, TightVNC, UltraVNC) for those types of
needs. I even use VNC sometimes instead of RDP if all I need to do is to see
something quick, like an error msg that the user has encountered.
Although I don't use GoToMyPC for customer/client support, I find that I
leave itr on my own business computers, as sometimes when I'm travelling out
of state that that's the only connection that will work for me to get back
to my office computer. Now, if they would come up with a Treo/Palm version
of GTMPC.

Sometimes I want to connect to a remote workstation when the client's not
there and when I don't want to log him/her off. Is there a way to do that
if the user's not there to initiate a help request?

Shadow sessions are only available on the server and not on XP
Workstations. Remote Assistance is the way for the Client to see the
screen

Hello,
Take a look at shadow sessions on RDP and remote support ... both can
give you "viewing" and more ...
Cheers

Despite all the hype, rhetoric, and rationalizing, so much of these
decisions come to personal preference and the consultant's personality.
My brother, who administers a large, national non-profit with scores of
branch offices, loves GoToMyPC. I've tried it and don't like it. I do
love pcAnywhere, not because it's so fine a product (it is after all,
from Symantec), but because I've been using it for so many years and
know it inside and out). I don't like Remote Desktop, which is
otherwise vastly superior to pcAnywhere, and free to boot, because it
doesn't allow simultaneous viewing by the host user.

Use remote assistance.
Gotomypc pings way to much traffic outbound IMHO.

Since it's only one machine you're trying to reach, if you have a
configurable hardware firewall you can try forwarding 5631/5632 to
the IP of that machine.
