----opinion----
The preference (and that towards Trend in general) comes from a very much
historical perspective.
A long time ago (in a near near near galaxy) TrendMicro came up with a
package specifically designed for use on SBS, CSM for SMB. In comparison to
other available products it was significantly cheaper and one of very few
products claiming specific design for a somewhat unpopular MS product, SBS.
People, some of them leaders in the SBS community, decided to try it.
The product proved to live up to claims. Various other products had
problems, both general and specific to SBS (ie. a few BSOD's sortta got in
the way). Meanwhile, CSM for SMB just kept chugging along.
Unlike other products which would have updated definition files available at
daily or maybe even weekly intervals TrendMicro sometimes released several
updates in a day, the ability of the server to check for updates hourly was
considered a good thing.
As SBS became more popular the market penetration of Trend into the SBS
space increased, sortta at the instigation of those previously mentioned
'community leaders', anyone asking the question 'which AV should I use?'
would get 20 responses of Trend CSM for SMB and one small voice, off in the
distance, saying 'ummm, I use XYZ, it works'.
Many of the reasons are now no longer pertinent but when a snowball starts
rolling it tends to keep doing so. The significant penetration in the
specific market and the phenomenal growth of that market are good reason for
Trend to continue to pay attention, this is a bonus.

I am just curious as to why you wouldn't choose the NeatSuite over the CSM
for SMB since the price point is negligibly more.

I've been using the CSM for SMB for about 2 yrs now on the same setup as
the OP. I also switched from Symantec.

Fortunately we don't get vendor reps haunting these NGs
CSM for SMB 3.0 is what you are looking for.
Wayne Small, one of the SBS MVPs has written an excellent guide on this
version and its available on his site at

From all of the posts I understand that Trend's security products are
the
most popular. When looking them up at the trendmicro website, the
array of
products are confusing.
I'm running a SBS 2003 Std with 23 XPP/SP2 clients, using exchange,
pop &
smtp clients. The entire domain is behind a physical firewall and I
use IMF
to filter emails for spam & junk. I also use the built in XP client
firewall
protection.
The main objectives are email, file system, and internet browsing.
Currently running symantec corporate edition and am tired of it. The
annual
license is expiring and I do not wish to renew.
Trend has 3 separate products.
Client Server Messaging Security for SMB
Client Server Messaging Suite
NeatSuite for SMB
Which One? I do not wish to hear advice from any sales reps, incl
trend's.
I do not want multiple products doing the same function and want the
best
available, with the best/widest coverage and performance.
Thanks for any advice
.
