Re: Cannot telnet to port 25 from Windows 2003 SBS server to itself

Hi,
No, you are not off base. Thanks for checking.
I'm sure I'm running the telnet command correctly and have tried the
methods you suggested below.
Since the server is in production I cannot easily remove the av
software or veritas from it. I can tell you that we have McAfee SBS
server with Groupshield on the server.
As for the wizard, what is it about the wizard that will possibly
resolve it? Honestly, I'm not all that familiar with it and am
curious.
SMTP services are running.
Thanks.

Hi,
Thank you for posting here.
From your post, you cannot use telnet to connect the Exchange server on
port 25. If I'm off base, please feel free to let me know.
First, please refer to the following article to make sure you run the
Telnet command correctly.
XFOR: Telnet to Port 25 of IMC to Test IMC Communication:

Secondly, I would suggest the following troubleshooting steps to narrow
down this problem.
1. On the Exchange server, please run Telnet to connect to the Exchange
server NetBIOS name, FQDN name and IP address. Is it successful?
2. Please use NSlookup to verify if the Exchange server FQDN name can be
resolved in the internal network.
3. Please temporary remove Anti-virus software and Veritas on SBS Server.
4. Make sure SMTP services is started.
Also please refer to following website to re-run CEICW wizard.
A step by step explanation of the CEICW:

| The application is veritas 10.x. However, the fact that the
| applicaiton isn't sending e-mail seems to be more of a symptom of the
| problem; which is I cannot connect from the server on port 25 and send
| e-mail. Thanks for your help nonetheless.
