I have had exactly the same issue with a number of APC units particularily
the smaller ones, they cause a random shutdown like that, replacing the unit
fixed the issue, I didn't buy the new battery because of the cost so I don't
know if that fixes it or not.

My UPS of choice is Minuteman http://www.minutemanups.com/, much stronger
warranty and the batteries are not as expensive to replace.

APC are working on this with me. Going to do a deep discharge and then
recalibrate and see what happens. Since I have just bought a new battery,
throwing unit out is not an option. It may not even be the UPS, but it
needs to be eliminated before the next step.

Huh?

I don't use APC anymore because when the batteries beging to fail they
exhibit this symptom, the replacement battries cost almost as much as the
original unit and they have a weak 1 year warranty on the battery.

What fix would you suggest?
