Re: Exchange ntbackup restore ESE BACKUP A checkpoint file is dama

Hi David,

Best Practice at this point :

- go for an online restore.
- the checkpoint should be all restored.

However, should in any point the stores failed to mount and get an
error
c1041724, you will definitely want to look at the KB provided earlier.

- go for an consistency check eseutil/mh <priv1.edb> | <pub1.edb>
- if it gives you a clean shutdown, the checkpoints have been restored.

ELSE,

- go for an integrity check eseutil/g <priv1.edb> | <pub1.edb>
- if it fails,

go for : eseutil/p <priv1.edb> |<pub1.edb> "This is a hard recovery.
Once this completes, rename all the log files, res files, chk point
files, temp files from the MDBDATA Folder except for the Priv1.edb/stm
| pub1.edb/stm.

- Restart Exchange system Attendant / Information Store Service.
- Check for the Stores, they should be mounted. If not try mounting
them manually.

It should be all good !

The procedure that is described in this article is based on a single server and
single site scenario that has the following qualities:
· A site connector is not being used.
· Site replication is disabled (a single site is in use).
· An offline copy of both the Pub1.edb file and the Priv1.edb file exists.

I have an image of the corrupt data store and I have an online backup of a
working data store from prior to the disaster. I do not believe I have
offline backups of the working data store, unless an online backup image is
equal to an offline backup image (I don't believe it is).

I need to know why the online restore procedure isn't working -- e.g. why is
ESE BACKUP barfing on the checkpoint file? I suspect it has something to do
with:

a. Tools -> Options. Does anybody know what the correct settings are for
online
backups and restores?

b. The checkpoint file. Does anybody know where that is, and if I need to do
something with it to allow an online restore using ntbackup?

TIA,

David
