server rebuild question

I have an SBS box that went unpatched and caught a couple of bugs. I
was able to remove them from the system, but the OS is permanently
damaged and is not 100% functional (a couple of services won't run from
startup). Even an OS repair did not solve my issues.
My plan is to install SBS on a new server (it was time to replace the
old hardware anyway) and then restore my Active Directory, Exchange
organization, and other third party data. In this situation I do not
know how to restore active directory without possibly polluting the
registry on the new server.
Typically if I needed to rebuild a DC I would add an additional DC,
transfer the Operations Master Roles to the new DC, and then
decommission the old DC. It is my undestanding that SBS has to be THE
DC, although you can add other DCs to it's domain, it wants to be in
charge. Any ideas on how best to handle this?
