Hi Dodge,
Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup! Many thanks for Buddy's input
I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand that
the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to
answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!
As Buddy said, you need remove the both laptop from the SBS network and
join them back to Workgroup mode and then re-join them to the domain to
resolve the issue. I would like to provide the detail steps as follows:
1. Quit the laptops from the domain. To do so, see:
Locate in Client Computers in Server Management console and choose the
computer in right panel. Click Remove from network link to delete the
computer from domain.
2. Logon the laptops with Administrator permissions and join it to
"Workgroup", and reboot the computer.
3. Reset the TCP/IP stack by using the suggestion in the following KB
article:
299357 How to Reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=299357
4. Setup the client laptops by running Setup Client Computer wizard to
setup computer account and assign related user account to the laptop.
6. Logon the laptops with Administrator permissions and join it to domain
by running http://servername/connectcomputer. And assign appropriate user
accounts to the computer.
Note: Please ensure you have added the SBS Site (http://FQDN/*) in trusted
site in IE of the laptop.
Please let me know if you have further question on the issue. We are glad
to help.
Have a nice day!
Sincerely,
Jenny Wu

Make sure both Laptops are removed from the domain and joined to a
workgroup. On each laptop, go to My Computer | Properites | Computer Name
Tab... join to the workgroup and reboot.
Create new accounts for each laptop in SBS (Using the Wizard!!!) Name
what you want. Run the http://sbs/connectcomputer wizard as normal.-

on an SBS 2003 Prem server - had a user that had a laptop sent in for
board
replacement - took hard drive out and put it in same model laptop.
Everything
worked fine. In getting repaired laptop back, wanted to use the original
computer name - so without thinking about it - deleted computer from SBS
thinking I have to rejoin the SBS network. What will happen to the user
with
the other computer with the same computer name? I was hoping to change
that
computer's name to something else - but deleted it from SBS computers
before
thinking this through. Will user be able to sign in to network?
Suggestions as how best to fix this.
