Re: Problem with DNS on SBS and on router

I would echo Charlie's response. Change the IP address on your router
to a different subnet. Then disable DHCP on the router, and re-run
CEICW and change the IP address for your server's WAN nic to match the
router's subnet. The SBS server will then route between the SBS LAN
subnet and the router's subnet, as well as handing out the proper
default gateway.

As a side note, you do have your DNS setup properly on the server, so
good job there.

Why would your Internal and external NICs be on the same LAN segment? They
should be on different segments. So your internal (LAN) side should be some
other subnet and a different physical subnet. Your DNS would then be
pointing to your server IP address for the LAN segment and the Router or
your ISP's DNS for the external (WAN) sgement.

Hi all SBS users, enthusiasts and profs,
Continuing my battle with SBS 2003 server... I met with a problem with DNS
on SBS2003. In my installation there is a router with DHCP connecting my
LAN with Internet. My SBS server has two NIC's: one for LAN and one for
WAN. To setup DHCP on SBS2003 server I disabled the DHCP server on the
router but then I cannot connect to Internet. If I enable the DHCP on my
router then all is OK but then I have two DHCP (SBS2003 doesn't protest).
What is the problem with?

A few parameters:
1. SBS2003 Premium, ISA is not installed
2. The router IP: 192.168.0.1
Mask: 255.255.255.0
3. WAN NIC:
IP: 192.168.0.2
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS: 192.168.0.3
192.168.0.1
WINS: 192.168.0.3
3. LAN NIC:
IP: 192.168.168.0.3
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: (not defined)
DNS: 192.168.0.3
WINS: 192.168.0.3

Thanks in advance for any help.
Jerzy
