Re: VPN between office and Home

I think you're going to find file transfer over this link to be pretty slow.
It all depends on how much data you're attempting to back up, but I'd
recommend doing the backup at the office and then bringing a copy offsite -
or use more than one hard drive and rotate them offsite. Give it a try by
copying a hundred mb's or so to see how the performance is, but I'm thinking
it won't be very good.

Thanks! I will try it. How about the Remote Backup. I like to use a
Network
Hard Drive as my second location backup for my SBS2003.

Jimmy - please try this first. On the SBS, go to the Server Mgmt Console
and click Internet and E-Mail. Run the Configure Remote Access to enable
the VPN. Make a note of the server's public IP.

On the XP box at home, go to Control Panel -> Network Connections. On
the
left side of the window, run the wizard "Create a New Connection," using
the
IP address you noted above.

You should be able to dbl-click the connection you created in the second
step above and get a login prompt on your SBS network. This will not
require a separate IP or any hardware, and will allow multiple
simultaneous
connections. Make sure you have a good strong, long password. At this
point, it will be like your home PC is actually connected to the network,
so
you'll be able to do just about anything you can do when connected
locally.

One thing I recommend is to create a separate user profile on the remote
computer, with a username and password matching those of the SBS domain.
Then I only use that profile when connecting to the office - not when
browsing, online banking, etc. This minimizes the number of times I'm
prompted for a password, and hopefully isolates the office a little from
anything that might be going on with the client PC.

The reason I need to use the VPN ternnels between two locations. I
need
to
have three or four PC on second location. Also, I like to get a
network
HD
for my second location backup my main server files(SBS2003).
That is why I want to get a VPN ternnel instead of client VPN or RWW.

Hi,
why not terminate the vpn onto your server and use the built in client
in your pc at home to connect directly.

I need my second location as a remote office. My main question, My

Server has one WAN public IP address already. Now, if I assign
another
different WAN public IP address for VPN turnnel to connect to my
remote
office which is DHCP from DSL. Does it work?

Also, some of the function the RWW can not work such as Multi

printing and scan.

Not sure why you would spend that money.
Do you have a computer at the office?
Why not RWW?

I have T1 at office and DSL at home.
Office has one static IP for SBS2003 Server (2 LAN cards)
I wonder if I put a hardware VPN router and assign a Static IP
address at
office and add this WAN IP address on SBS2003 server for
routing,
and put
another hardware VPN router at home with DHCP from ISP.
Is that going to work? I am not sure? Please advise!

Thanks!
