I run a business consultancy. While we do have significant confidential
client data, I was hoping there was at least a way to allow printing (the
printer is connected to the server) without having to enter a password. I am
not as concerned about physical security, since the office is a room in my
house.

I am terribly new to server based networks and SBS is my first experience
with a server (I absolutely love it, by the way - I get a real sense of the
power and potential it has for helping my business to grow!). When there were
only two employees (my wife and I) things were fine with just a peer to peer
workgroup sharing a few folders and a printer. Since we have expanded to four
staff, I went out and bought a server and a copy of SBS 2003.

I just tried connectcomputer on the Pro machine, and it seems due to the
topology of my network (FTTH modem with internal firewall/router) between the
WAN and the LAN (the server is physically connected to the router in the same
manner as the other four machines) that I can't join the Pro box to the
domain. (The error message suggesting that the SBS server needs to be the
primary DNS server, which the above-mentioned router is now handling).

I suppose my network topology will be problematic to solving this problem. I
currently have a dynamic IP (and subsequently outsource my mail and web
hosting to my ISP), but I feel my network and client data is more secure
behind the hardware firewall, as opposed to the SBS server acting as the
gateway/firewall to the Internet.

Any suggestions?

Which particular box do you click where to do this? Even if just for the
printer, it would make things easier.

If this is a firm that has confidential client data.. don't you want
those passwords to be entered and not saved on the machines where they
are at risk to physical security issues? You run the risk of lack of
physical security if you save the passwords on the machines.

Get XP pro machines.. they would automagically log onto the shared
resources when logging in.

XP Homes you have to click the box to save the password which isn't too
great..

The machines will remember the user name... just prompt for passwords
when then are joined to the domain. On that XP pro did you do
http://domainname/connectcomputer?
