RE: New DC 2003 R2 with SBS2003 replication problem. Need Help !

Hi Jose,

Thank you for posting in the SBS Newsgroup.

I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand that
the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to
answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!

From the description, I understand that you have added an additional DC on
SBS domain and you get some KCC errors on SBS. If I have misunderstood your
concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.

As I know, the issue may be caused by the Intersite Messaging service has
not enabled on SBS. Please try to enable the service via running
services.msc to see if it helps.

| Hi to all !.
|
| I recently added one new 2003 server standard R2 like 2nd DC in one
domain
| with one another DC SBS2003 SP1.
| This 2003 server R2 I added is in another remote office connected with
the
| main office (in wich are the SBS2003) trougth VPN.
| All the problems are solvented and the VPN connection works fine, I see
that
| the replication between servers works well and I included a domain DFS
root
| as well without problems.
|
| Only one problem can´t be resolved:
| The SBS remain with several KCC errors 1311, 1312, and 1865, but no
errors
| appears in the 2003 Server R2.
| Some errors definition in event log are:
| "Error 1865
| The Knowledge Consistency Checker (KCC) was unable to form a complete
| spanning tree network topology. As a result, the following list of sites
| cannot be reached from the local site.
|
| Error 1311
| The Knowledge Consistency Checker (KCC) has detected problems with the
| following directory partition.
| Directory partition:
| CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=com
| There is insufficient site connectivity information in Active Directory
| Sites and Services for the KCC to create a spanning tree replication
| topology. Or, one or more domain controllers with this directory partition
| are unable to replicate the directory partition information. This is
|
| Error 1312
| call to the Intersite Messaging service that specifies the following
| transport failed.
| Transport:
| CN=IP,CN=Inter-Site Transports,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=com
| As a result, the Knowledge Consistency Checker (KCC) cannot configure a
| correct intersite replication topology.
| User Action
| Verify that the Intersite Messaging service is running.
| Additional Data
| Error value:
| 1722 The RPC server is unavailable."
|
| I tested several configurations in "sites and services" and I surprised
that
| if both servers are in the same site all the KCC errors dissapears and
all
| works great, but if I place each server in diferent site (I need this,
the
| servers are in diferents subnets and need to "control" the log-in for
| computer clients) the KCC errors comes again only in SBS2003, but the
| replication still working !!.
| The configuration in "sites and services" are the recomended like MS
| whitepapers says for this environtment, I configured the Subnets for the
| sites, One site-link with IP and anpther with SMTP, Both server have
links
| with the other in NTDS settings object, and both DC are BridgeHeads for
the
| links IP and SMTP, and both GC for the AD.
| I think that all the configuration int both servers are correct, or not?.
|
| Why these KCC errors ???
| It´s posible that only have a problem with inter-site replications, but
no
| in intra-site?
| It has something that to see with the R2 esquema extension in the SBS
2003??
| I only run adprep /forestprep for SBS2003 to join the 2003 server R2 to
| domain (I think no necessary to run the /domainprep like some people says)
|
| I seek for several days one answer in MS documents, blogs, etc... with no
| luck.
|
| Please need Help, this problem it´s very big for mee !!!
|
| Thanks in advance, and sorry about my very bad English.
|
| Jose.
