RE: I can't run the routing and remote access wizard

Hi Negil,

Thanks for your update. I appreciate your time and efforts to perform test
and resolved the companyweb issue.

I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand that
the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to
answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!

What is the meaning of the active directory is missing? If it is the fact,
you can not access the computer remotely. To restore the SBS system files,
you need have a fine backup of the system files. Please refer to the
following white paper to get detail steps to restore the SBS server.

Backing Up and Restoring Windows Small Business Server 2003

Q: Is there any way to prevent ANYONE from EVER runnning the windows 2003
prgrams that mess up server 2003?

A: What program you indicated? Generally the Software Restriction Policies
(SAFER) is a way that administrators can define what applications are
allowed or disallowed to run on a target system. The configuration is
deployed via Group Policy objects and stored in the registry (either HKLM
for computer policy and HKCU for user policy). However, it only applies to
Windows XP and later systems.

You can refer to the steps in the following article to deploy the software
restriction policies:

324036 HOW TO: Use Software Restriction Policies in Windows Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=324036

For more information on Software Restriction Policies, please refer to:

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any further question on
the issue. I am glad to be assistance of you!

Have a nice day!

hello Jenny

Since i sent you the emails - hope you received them - I have run a
registry
check sfc /scannow and then I came home. I can now access the computer
remotely, but the active directory is now missing. I want to restore
system
files. I don't think I can do that remorely, so please email or post here
(or
both!) details of how to restore system files that have the active
directory
that works, not the latest one that was fouled up by Microsoft security
Wizard.
Hope you haven't spent a long time looking thru those files I sent. i
think
we may be near sorting this out if we can resotore active directory. Once
it
is restored, is there any way to prevent ANYONE from EVER runnning the
windows 2003 prgrams that mess up server 2003?

best wishes

Hello Jenny. thank you for helping me.
I have run the updates / fixes you mentioned.
Both CEICW and RRAwiz run successfully now.
ServicePackNumber in the registry is 1

The default website now shows up on my IE browser on this server as
http://companyweb.
When I click on that page the link to My Company's Internal Web Page,
the
page does not change.
When I click on the link to Network Configuration Wizard, the page
changes
to: https://companyweb:444/default.asp - the companyweb home page
the same home page shows when I go back to http://companyweb/ and click
on
the link to Information and Answers.

In IIS, the web sites listed are:
Description Id State Host header I P
address

Port SSL Port
Default Web site 1 Running "All
Unassigned" 80 443
Microsoft Sharepoint Ad... 2 Running "All
Unassigned" 4255
Sharepoint Central Adm... 3 Running "All
Unassigned"
8081
companyweb 4 Running companyweb "All Unassigned"
80

444

I presume these are mixed up but I don't know how to straighten them
out.

regards

Nigel
