RE: migrating users profiles

Hi Subhas,

Thanks for posting here. I am jenny and I am backup of Brandy for she is
now taking leave. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

What issue you encountered? Please check the following information:

- If you have not joined it into SBS domain, "Make this folder private" is
available for the user profile folder. You can clear it to reset the
permission. You can change the permissions as the following article
described. Level 2 is technically enough but you can loosen it to Level 5.

304040 Description of File Sharing and Permissions in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=304040

- If you have joined the SBS domain, "Make this folder private" is no
longer available for the user profile folder. You need to configure its
permissions on the "Security" tab manually. Basically, local
Administrators: Full Control is enough for this folder to perform migration.

If you have further question on the issue, I would like to suggest that you
create a new thread in the newsgroup and post your question here. Microsoft
engineers can only focus on one issue per thread. We recommend you post
different incidents in different threads to keep the thread clean. In doing
so, it will ensure your issues are resolved in a timely manner. And other
partners who the newsgroups regularly can either share their knowledge or
learn from your interaction with us. Also, this is to make sure that the
responders can better track the problem. Thank you for your understanding!

Hope above information helps.

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jenny Wu

Hello Rick,

Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.

Thanks a lot for Locke's input!

I understand that you encounter "Make this folder private" error message
when running http://servername/connectcomputer wizard on one client
workstation. If I have misunderstood your issue, please let me know.

Based on my research, this issue may occur if you do not have
permissions
to access some of the files that are located in Documents and
Settings\UserName folder that corresponds to the user who you are trying
to
migrate. I suggest that we perform following suggestions to see how it
goes. If the issue persists, please help me to gather more detail
information for further research. Thanks a lot for your co-operation!

We have KB886210 which stating the issue, please see:

886210 "The following user settings are private" error message when you
try
to migrate a user's profile to Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=886210

To clear the temporary internet files:

1. On the problematic client workstation, open IE -> Tools -> Internet
Options -> General tab.
2. Click Delete Files button.
3. Tick the box "Delete all offline content" and click OK.
4. Click OK.

To perform clean boot on the problematic client workstation:

a. Click Start->Run, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotation marks) and
click OK.
b. In the System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) window, click the
"Startup" tab.
c. Click to clear all the check marks from the list box under "Startup".
d. Click the Services tab, check the "Hide all Microsoft Services" box
and
then click the "Disable All" button to disable the non-Microsoft
services.
e. Click OK to close the MSConfig window. Click Yes when you are asked
to
restart your computer in order to enable the changes.
f. After restarting, please check whether this issue still exists.

================================

If the issue persists, please help me to gather following information
for
further research:

1. What is the exact error message you encounter? Please type the error
message word by word to the Newsgroup for accurate research. I strongly
suggest that you capture a screen shot for the error message.

2. How did you create the user and computer accounts, using the SBS Add
Users Wizard?

3. Does the issue occur on all client computers? Does it occur if you do
not migrate user profiles?

4. On the client computer, go to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows
Small Business Server\Clients folder and then send the SBSNetSetup.log
file
to my mailbox v-branee@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

5. Run "ipconfig /all > C:\server.txt" on the server and "ipconfig /all

C:\client.txt" on the problematic client workstation and then send these
files to my mailbox.

6. For you additional information:

your
reply!

I have a client runing xp pro and need it connected to the SBS 2003.
So i
used the "connectcomputer" to connect the client to the domain. I ran
into
some problems when i tried to migrate my current profile to the SBS
profile.
It asked to change the settings on the folder in my user dir to
unselect
the
"private" check box. I did that and it still would not network. So
i
selected "none" while setting up the account and found the it did not
migrate
any of my personal setting on the client. Is there a way to migrate
the
profile after the fact. I'm also having a difficult time seting up
out
look. im not running exchange on the SBS.

thanks!
