Re: SBS 2003 & imate K-JAM

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I wasn't sure if it was by design, or not.
If you were to permit SSL in addition to your current enty methods, then
mobile users wouldn't require VPN to initiate an active sync. But you'd
have to make a perimeter change to make that happen. :)

Alan, There should be no need to VPN first in order to Exchange
Activesync if the firewall is configured to permit Outlook Mobile Access.
(maybe re-run the CIECW again? look for other configuration issues?)

Aart,

Check out the Microsoft WM5 on SBS documentation - but follow Chris's
guidance for installing the Certificate on the device (the method in the
MS document doesn't work... at least in my experience).

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=62797

You might consider deleting the activesync partnership, and hard
resetting your device before picking up at the MS Document. If you
need/want Direct Push, then you will probably want to flash the device
first (as it will erase any handset settings or configurations).

If you look on your handset at Start | Settings | System tab | About, you
will find your System build info - anything less than ".2.0.0" will not
support Direct Push. For IMate devices, updates can be found at:
ftp://ftp.clubimate.com.

Hope that helps some,

Jason

Have a customer with one, the supplier gave up setting it up.

Currently it synchronises with a workstation, ideally it would talk to
the server directly via the internet.

Is there a guide somewhere to setting up & troubleshooting connection
problems? Are there firmware updates or something similar for these
handheld devices? One of its issues is that it doesn't allow you to
enter a domain name, its present onscreen as a field, but is always
'blued' out.

Will it need a certificate installed?
Does it matter that originally the server cert was
publishing.domainname.co.nz, and the current hostheader we are using is
server.domainname.co.nz ?

Thanks
Aart

Hi Aart,

We also have one user with a device like this.

With our setup, they can sync remotely only after making a VPN
connection. Is that an option for you?

HTH,

Alan.

Hi Jason,

We only have two points of entry - PPTP and SMTP.

Therefore, I don't see any other option, but if I am wrong please do
enlighten me!

Thanks,

Alan.
