Hehehe!
Actually Charlie, I thought to do virtualization properly one should boot
off a R2 64 bit box. In my case, the MS MAP only contains WXP X64 so I may
opt for that and apply SP2 to it. I find 64 bit OSs to be more robust.
So far I haven't got too much feedback to doing it this way. But this gets
me ready for Cougar IMO... <VBG>...
Then I thought I'd install VM Server - it's ALSO free - and load SBS2k3 on
it. And then load WS2k3 SE R2 and apply SP2 to it. Then I'd add an x64 WXP
box to the mix and apply SP2 to it as well, much as I have done here
already.
Anyways, my hardware is MSI AMD64 Single Core with 3 GBs of ram and a fast
SATA drive. MAybe I'll add the last gig to it and another SATA drive.
Anyways, in case you're wondering WHY both VM Ware and VS virtualization...
well sir, it got down to having some issues with a USB bar code scanner that
should have been recognized as a 'wedge' keyboard... one gave me fits
regardless of virtual host and one worked flawlessly but I didin't think of
trying it until AFTER I exhuasted everything else first...such as VM Ware as
it runs USB natively. The bar code scanner was plugged into my laptop which
would connect remotely and run a T/S session.
For those wondering, my custom MS Access app works great on either virtual
host... unreal how well this worked... SBS R2 SE hosting two terminal
servers each hosting 2 guests... a WS2k3 and WXP and yet the systems were
all stable and rock solid and my custom app ran faster in a terminal server
environment than locally on my 1 GB P4 laptop... which I found hard to
bvelieve.
So... we'll see when I do this. First I have to move this SBS R2 from SE to
PE and see how much 'fun' that brings me.
Thanks again Charlie, as always, I appreciate your feedback. Soon I'll be
reading your R2 book. <VBG>
Regards!

You're likely to be rebooting your box a lot. ;)
The poor OS gets starved, at some point. There's more than one reason
we're all moving to x64 for the next release. ;)
Now, that being said, I have a "customer" (Habitat for Humanity, so I get
paid in intangibles) that I run a VS seesion on to provide two XP client
machines that they can RWW into. Works just fine. From some initial
monitoring, I figure it could handle at least one more, and probably two
more clients before I was pushing up against it.
I would _not_ attempt to run both VMWare and VS. Pick one and stick with
it. If you need to run the other, put it on a different box.

Charlie,
Have you done anything with virtualization?
My SBS R2 box is also my virtual server host, using both VS2005 R2 SP1
and
VM Ware Server... so I have 2 terminal servers running on top of the R2
box as well as two WXP clients... an x86 and an x64 version. One of the
benefits of running VM Ware is the ability to host 64 bit OS's on top of
a 32 bit host. <VBG>
Enough of the preamble... I just wondered what sort of issues I might
encounter once I set up ISA, ie: flip R2 SE to PE.
Anyone with input can chime in.
Thanks!

Yes, that should work fine. I did that at least once during the beta (I
had the workgroup bits early.)

Thought I'd pick your brain Charlie and get the quick heads up on this.
I clean installed my R2 copy and added the R2 bits *PRIOR* to bringing
the
machine to Premium Edition. This is a test box as the R2 Beta didn't
have all of the final stuff in it... and I wanted to see the final
pieces in action.
I should be able to bring this box to Premium by just installing the
premium programs that I want to... no?
