But you said that?
Ergo MBSA.

Thank you for the reply, Susan. I have WSUS on the server. I did a
manual Windows Update from their web site.
Susan, I'm confused. I don't know the relevance of this talk of updates.
I intended on *upgrading* from using MSDE for SharePoint (WSS+SP2) to
using SQL Server so I can do full-text searches and put the companyweb
content on a NAS device. The installation is the problem. I got an
error. Apparently SQL Server is still not running. What do I do?
Thanks for your time, Susan. I appreciate your efforts.

Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 2.0:

And on your server, go to Windows update and flip yourself over to
Microsoft update... but MBSA is a better overall checker anyway...

Thank you for your response. Hopefully you aren't too stressed over
'stupid' Microsoft. :^)
I deleted the Server Manager icon from Startup. Thanks.
What is MU or MBSA and where do I run it from? Command prompt?

That not connected -\\ is normal. You can just delete that stupid
icon out of programs/startup. Stupid Microsoft and a cosmetic issue
left over
from a patch.
Run MU or MBSA to confirm that it has SP4

The consultant that installed our sbs 2k3 (swing migration from sbs
2K) had not installed SQL Server or it didn't install correctly. The
icon in the system tray has a "Not connected - \\" tool tip when I
hover the mouse over it.
WSS + SP2 has been installed and I started using it (a little). It
apparently was set up with MSDE, not SQL Server. I followed the
instructions from the Premium Technologies CD to upgrade the instance
of MSDE used for Windows SharePoint Services. The instructions worked
great but the last step instructs to install SP3a. During the
installation of SP3a, though, at step 4, I selected SharePoint and
clicked next. A message box appeared that said "SHAREPOINT has a
newer version of Service pack installed. Setup will now exit."
I did have the MSSQL$SHAREPOINT service stopped.
My companyweb site still works, but I have no idea if I'm running the
latest service pack SP3a. How can I determine this?
Is this the correct method for setting up WSS to use SQL Server? If
so, how do I get SQL Server to connect?
Thanks for any help you'd be willing to share...
