Re: fax services - cannot send faxes to area code setup in modem properties

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

In phone and modem options, "new location" was set to our area code (204). I
could not send faxes to any (204) number, but i could send to any other area
code. I changed the area code to (306) (a neighboring code), and then I
could send to (204) but not to any (306) number. I have changed the area
code to (999) and I can send to all area codes now (except 999 if ever
needed). What does this setting affect? and is it important?

the modem is a GVC 56K external modem v90 56flex voice speakerphone.
the modem is used for nothing else but faxing.

Hi Bruce,

Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.

To narrow down the problem, would you please help me collect the following
information?

1. Do you mean you can not send fax before you do as following?

1) Open Server Management and then click Fax.
2) Click Configure Phone and Modem Options in the right pane.
3) On the Location Information page, type 999 in the What area code (or
city code) are you in now.

2. You said "I cannot send faxes from any connected workstations and the
server to the area code selected in the modem properties", can you tell me
how you select area code in the modem properties?
3. Is 999 your area code of your location? Can you only send fax using the
area code?
4. What is the detailed error message when you send the fax to the area
code selected in the modem properties?
5. What is the detailed model of the external modem?
6. Are there any other devices connected to the same modem?

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Crina Li (MSFT)
