Hi Andrew,
Thank you for your backup.
I'm sorry to hear that you can not recovery the data from original media.
As you mentioned, other computer is also not able to read the media, this
is a media related issue. In my view, I suggest your contact the
manufacturer for further analysis. I think they should hold first hand
info on this issue.
If you have any other concern, please feel free to let me know.
Have a nice day!
Best Regards,
Chace Zhang (MSFT)

| yes the server was at sp1 (all updates have been applied) The server is
| now back online as it only had a dead CPU. Since it has been replaced i
| have detected that there is another problem. None of the tapes are good.
| The backup says it is good but it can not be read in any other machine.
| Yet i used a brand new tape and it is good, can be accessed on this
| server and any other server. I tried using a tape recovery software
| package on one of the tapes and out of 11 gigs of information it could
| have only recovered 511 files.... not a very good way to restore a server.
|
| I have since marked the tapes with clear media, deleted the logs and
| will know tomorrow if it makes any difference. This was too close a call
| to rely on microsofts backup solution as it reported good backups even
| though the tapes were useless. I will be looking into a disk based
| solution that can be checked in other machines on a regular basis.
