RE: SQL Server Service Manager Problem on SBS2003 Standard

Thank you for your reply. I believe I already have this update, as SQL
Service Mgr is in my startup and always shows up in the system tray. The
problem is that the other program I am trying to install, which also requires
SQL Service Mgr, detects a version already present, with nothing to connect
to, and will not continue with the installation. I am trying to figure out
if I need to (a) uninstall the current SQL Service Manager and let the other
program install its own version (and if this is needed, how to go about doing
it, (b) just remove SQL Service MGR from startup or (c) connect the existing
SQL Service Mgr to something, and if so, what.
Thanks for any insight on this.

Hi Zuix,.
Thanks you for posting in SBS newsgroup.
Have you installed the update 829358?
829358 Critical update for SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (Windows) on
Windows Server 2003 are available for download on the Windows Update site
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829358
This update will place the SQL Server Service Manager shortcut to launch at
startup, and it will tell you things are not connected even though you
don't have an SQL server. This is normal for the MSDE instances that come
with SBS. If it is disconcerting to you, you can remove the Service Manager
shortcut from the Startup group, and it will not appear.
Hope it helps and I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Crina Li (MSFT)

| I am running a network with SBS2003 Standard, SP1. I have an instance of
