Hi Warwicke,
Thanks for your update. I appreciate your time to perform test.
Yes, your understanding is correct. Based on my research, there are some
such issues caused by this problem. I suggest that you delete all the TIF
files in the queue folder to test.
And also I agree with your test plan, there are indeed some issues that
were caused by modems. And the telephone lines, third party applications
can also lead to the issue. We should perform test to isolate the problem.
Please use another external modem to test the issue. Note: please ensure
use the modem brand that is compatible with the Windows 2003 server. You
can go to the following site to check the compatible modem lists:
www.microsoft.com/hcl.
I will wait for your test result. I appreciate your efforts to the issue.
Please let me know if you have any further question on the issue.
Have a nice day!
Sincerely,
Jenny Wu

Hi Jenny
Thanks for the response.
Do I understand correctly that the you believe that the quantity of
received faxes in the fax que caused the non receiving of faxes to
occur and that if I delete all the received faxes in the fax que that
the modem should receive faxes again until the quantity of faxes
reaches a quantity where the receiving of faxes will slowly fail again?
I don't think this is the problem as I have used the fax console to
monitor incoming faxes and not the document library. I see a few
partial faxes before the total failure of the receiving of faxes.
Last night I listened to the attempted receiving of faxes on the
internal modem and the sequence fails after the modem has answered the
ringing. The modem answers the call and handshaking starts and appears
to be confirmed and then everything appears to stop / freeze.
When a partial is received there is what sounds like data tones on the
line for a period of time and then everything stops. This testing was
repeated a number of time with similar results.
To me it appears to be the handling of internal modems that is where
the problem is.
Do you know of any prblems with internal modems or modem drivers?
I will be trying two external modems, one serial connected and one USB
connected this weekend together with your other suggestions.
I would appreciate any information on the recommended method of running
two modems on a SBS server.
Thanks for the help.
Regards
Warwicke
