Re: Update SBS2003 Premium with WSUS

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi Dave,

I have set up the WSUS according to the Doc Chris refered to as well. Seems
like the key to get the SBS to update itself from WSUS is a special GPO? As
much as I understand right now, the WSUS only "knows" the computers/servers
which are part of the AD, but not the DC (=SBS) itself? This would explain
why I only see the clients in the WSUS admin page.

Do I understand your suggestion correctly:

1.) I drag-n-drop the GPO to the Computers OU instead of the suggested
location in the paper.
2.) I create a second GPO (with auto download and notify) and link it to
Domain Controllers and Servers OU

Will I then be able to see the SBS in the WSUS admin console under
computers? Seems to me that the WSUS only lists computers/servers in the AD
(not the DC = SBS) itself, and it would be helpful to see the SBS there to
get all the details.

Kind regards, and again thanks a bunch for your support!

Mark

install. Other than that, the other settings should match the GPO that's
applied to the client PCs.

Hi guys,

we have a SBS2003 Premium up and running with 10 XP clients. WSUS is
installed on the SBS and so far all the clients receive their appropriate
updates. The SBS itself is still updating from the Microsoft update site.

Can I get the SBS to update from WSUS instead? If so, how would I get
there?
Seems like the WSUS only "knows" the clients within the AD, not the DC.

Which precautions do you suggest? I know (from my own painfull experience)
that applying automated updates on SBS is not a good idea. We use
Exchange,
SQL, ISA and quite a large Sharepoint-Site.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Kind regards,

Mark
