Re: Exchange 2003: users getting 10-12 copies of each inbound message

Thanks for your response Cris.

No we are not using pop3 nor are the messages being sent BCC.
Since I posted this topic I have rebooted our firewall. This appears
to have cleared up our exchange issues (SMTP). There are still a few
duplicates coming in, but they all appear to be from messages
originating before I rebooted our firewall.

Something must have corrupted a script in the firewall that triggered
an NDR to be sent even though the message was successfully delivered.

I'll post a reply if the situation changes.

Thanks again,
Shwan

Hello,

We are running a SBS Standard/Exchange 2003 on the same box. Exchange
was behaving as expected while I was away on vacation last week...
until Thursday. I received complaints that everyone was receiving 10+
copies of every email that was being sent to them from outside the
network. The senders were also complaining about receiving repeated
NDRs for each message they are sending to my companies users.

Somehow our system is sending out NDRs even though the messages were
successfully sent. I had a fellow employee restart the Exchange IS
service and check the queues. There were messages being held up, but
they cleared out after a few minutes... no fix for the problem - people
are still getting a 10+ duplicates.

I had them reboot the server after hours... no fix

This problem is still occurring and I would appreciate any feedback.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post,
Shwan
