RE: 550 Authentication turned on in your email client

Hi Chace,

Thank you for your assistance.

In response:
The 550 NDR is/was correct, this was resolved by emailsystems pointing mail
directly to the IP address rather than the hostname - so there is a DNS issue
which is being resolved.

Otherwise the set up they have is correct. They have telnetted to the server
on 25 and can get a response, but the server is refusing mail. I have allowed
lists of IP addresses as there will only be specific addresses that mail will
come from (ie email systems) and I have double checked those that I can find.
I am almost certain there is somewhere else on the server / exchange that has
a option for these 'white' IP's that I have missed checking. Because of teh
problems associated with the above DNS issue, I made some changes to these
lists, but think I may have found one that i now cannot.
The places I know about are:
Exchange/Gloabl Settings/Message Delivery/Properties/Connection
Filtering/Global Accept
Default SMTP Virtual Server Properties/Access/Connection Control

Are you aware of anywhere else that I may have missed??

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Ian

Hi Ian,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand you can not receive emails from
external. And the sender encountered NDR 550. If I'm off based, please feel
free to let me know.

First I suggest you contact emailsystems.com to verify the configuration is
correct.

Can you provide the info of NDR word for word?

From your post, it seems the configuration of exchange is correct.

Test 1. Please perform the following steps to narrow down this issue.

From internet on a WS command prompt type Telnet <IP address of exchange
server> 25 and see if you get a connection.
For more information, please refer to the following article:

XFOR: Telnet to Port 25 of IMC to Test IMC Communication:

Test 2. The firewall may cause the problem. You can check your settings by
the following article:

312415 XADM: Some Domains Send NDRs to an Exchange 2000 Server That Runs
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=312415

Test 3. The problem may be caused by AntiVirus software on the Exchange
server. I suggest you temporarily disable the Anti-virus software and the
related
services, and reboot the server, and then test if the problem occurs.

For your information, you can read the following Microsoft Knowledge Base
article, and make sure you configured your Anti-Virus correctly.

328841 XADM: Exchange and Antivirus Software

Please let me know the results, I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a nice day!

Best Regards,
